Since its introduction in the mid 70s, no other hatchbacks have managed to knock the Golf from the throne, is it correct to say this?

the old escort, then the focus; the Astra (?), more recently the 1-series, not forgetting a few other european hatchbacks like the 305-308, the magene, C4, Bravo, Alfa hatchback, etc, from japan: Civic hatchback, and all the others HBs, all more or less fail....

So far, which model(s) come close to knocking it off? why it's so hard to beat?

(I am not a Golf fan)

there was another race video i saw also very nice. but instead of scirocco 2.0TSI and golf GTI, the video showed off the scirocco R and golf R pitted against civic type R and evo 10 etc.

in the end, scirocco R won and golf R was 4th. CTR was last.

Edit: found the video

bro.. GTI to S3 is already considered an upgrade, much less RS3. go find out how fast RS3 is [:p]

if i'm not wrong, it's easily within top 5 fastest car within Audi's entire range.

Neutral Newbie

The Civic Type R Driver in the "R" battle is a joke. He doesn't know how to keep the rpm within the power band and his cornering speed is way too slow.

Now lets look at someone who really knows how to drive the car.

FD2 Type R driven by Tsuchiya - Best Lap 1'08"278 (Note that it wasn't even a time attack)
