Cheaper doesnt mean losing lesser...

PI, normally lower OMV lah bro. This is one of the reasons for them to be lower

In addition to what other bros told,

Insurance is higher for PI ones

Service / Warranty would be a problem if PI is not good one.

MB may not be much problem, but BMWs can turn nightmare if agent is not good to deal with electronics

The country from where it is imported is important. Cold country cars to Singapore might be a problem.

I remember one of our bros here can help you in getting valuable information. Please search through the thread.

I used to own PI Merc E200 Kompressor.

Fact 1:

Servicing on your own. PI workshop has no maintenance schedule, nor servicing plan.

You tell them do what, they do.

What you don't tell, they won't do.

Fact 2:

They have no spare part catalog, and can buy wrong part number of previous E200 model and LL try to force it into your car, when the screw holes are obviously in the wrong locations. I had to intervene, speak with the workshop manager, before they order correct spare part.

Fact 3:

PI company can close down. Mine did, 6-months after purchase. Then you are on your own. Good luck.

Fact 5:

If you meet an accident, insurance companies treat PI Merc differently. Mine was under NTUC and IDAC informed me beforevthe repairs are done, that that for PI Mercs, they do not guarantee replacement with brand new parts. They reserve the right to use refurbished parts.

I was damn angry man - I asked, why? PI Merc is also a genuine Merc what? Not say immitation Merc right?

Fact 6:

When it comes to resale, used car dealers will first quote you a price. Then they ask you your Merc AD or PI. The moment you answer PI, they cut $10K from the quoted price. They say you buy cheaper, must sell cheaper.

Fact 7:

PI Merc OMV lower. PI can promise you high OMVs, but the proof is in the log card.

I only realise their trick too late. They bring in 'Classic' model and upgrade it locally as 'Avant Garde'.

Steel rims swapped locally to Taiwan-copy of Merc alloy rims.

Fabric seats to locally fitted leather.

Fact 8:

Delivery date keeps changing. Total delay = 3 months from initially-agreed delivery date.

In-between, PI will try to convince you to take different color, or to spray paint to the color you want.

Even interior dash board / panel color also ask you can accept different color or not (e.g. Agree on black interior, but later ask you if beige interior can accept or not).

That was my first and LAST time buying a PI car. The hassle, worries and heartaches not worth it.

Somemore viewed as a pariah by insurance companies and used car dealers!

Pariah = outcaste = scum = lowlife

I heard from PIs that BMW has this classification. I am not sure about other brands.

That was from one of the reputed PIs. In any case, I was not keen to go further on this as I almost decided very quick that I would not buy a PI unit! If you are experienced enough in this, I would buy this point from you and for you!

Turbocharged

My ex car and current car are UK spec and I have no problems running in this climate.

I think the "tropicalization" bs is something created by authorized distributors to deter consumers from buying from parallel importers :D
