Autocar - Mercedes CLA

This new entry-level Merc will look like a shrunken CLS (which is not a bad thing).

To be priced as an entry-level executive car and sit below C-Class, sharing the platform with the new A-Class.

While not sure what engine variant will be available in Singapore, given the current C180K 1.6l, we may be able to get a similar engine for this CLA.

With such looks and if priced below the current C180K, it should be another winner for Mercedes.

Hope it gets launched here, tentatively in 2014

Hmm, did merc say this is the actual production car or still concept, if concept forget about it, it will change by a lot, just like the FT/GT-86, concept car so swee, come out nothing exciting...

why is it that for most cars, the actual car always look worse than the concept car? why can't they use the concept car design?

Not a bad looking car. Swee!!

Not a family car though as its configure 2+2. Hope it adopts a FR drive layout then it will be superb!

According to the article and another online report, Mercedes have 'promised' to keep the concept design as much as possible / practical in the production. What is confirmed different is that the production is a 5-seater vs 4 in the concept.

On the other hand, the production A-class has been said to look worse than the concept aka the one with the chio AMG kit.

This car looks very expensive and doesn't appear like an entry level merc somehow..

Yeah. I was quite surprised to read that it is to be placed below C-class. Probably they will scrimp on the interior fittings.

It really looks very sleek. No ah Pek-ness. [laugh]

It is a 4 door like the CLS so the rear space should be quite good 'cept for the headroom.

It was stated that it will be a 5-seater. Probably they saw how the Passat CC failed with it's initial rear 2 seats.

For me too. It is so far the most desirable Mercedes for me. It looks way better than the CLS it was based on. Even if it is priced above the C180K think I will still go for this.

The CLA will offer the choice of standard front-wheel drive or optional four-wheel drive. Look like Merc plans to fight back the position from Audi, having pushed Mercedes Benz out of the Number-2 spot.

Saw that there will be a 1.6l but only 120bhp. Dunno whether typo or what. Current C180K already ard 156bhp.

Since it's based on the new A&B-Class chassis,

expect 1.6 Turbo CGI 122bhp, 156bhp, and the new 2.0 Turbo CGI 210bhp, all with 6MT or 7TCT (likely that only the 7TCT will make it to Singapore).....

And sorry guys, this is FF layout (Front engine, FWD).

Was wondering whether the 122bhp one is a NA? The figure seems low for a TC or SC.

The FF is a letdown but with such low power figures I wonder how much difference would there be when powering out of a corner.
