Balaballs 1st Gear May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 I was driving at about 50km/h on the extreme left lane at Sembawang road. Just at Sembawang Camp bus stop, I notice this SMRT bus stopped at the bus stop boarding passengers. It was a weekend around noon time where the road was almost empty. The traffic light was green just ahead of the bus stop. The next thing the bus driver did was unbelievable, he literally floor board his throttle and just cut into my path. I sound my horn and jam braked. Guess what the bus driver did next? He wind down his wind at started shouting at me pointing to the GIVE WAY TO BUS SIGN. WTF, I got out of my car and approached the driver and told him that, the traffic light is still green and there is no traffic ahead of me and I got the right of way. The way he driver is dangerous. The Ah Tiong still shouting and point to the yellow box in Chinese and could not even speak a word of English! I told him to call SMRT command centre when every driver have access to. He could not even understand that. He was shouting very violently pointing to the yellow bus lane box!!! I went to get my mobile to call the police by then the driver drove off. I complained to the police on the dangerous driving and they advise me to lodge a complaint with SMRT. So I did go down to Yishun bus interchange and made a complaint against the bus driver and also called the SMRT hotline to lodge a complaint. A week later, a lady from SMRT call and just said that they have warn the driver to be careful during driving and did counsel him. I told her that is not enough as it was a matter of time that he will kill someone on the road. How do I be assured that such an action has been carried out by SMRT? I told her I need a written explanation from SMRT and this is the response by her. Dear Mr...... Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience. We certainly do not condone such behaviour and do be assured that we are investigating the matter and will take the appropriate disciplinary action against the driver concerned. We will continue to reiterate to the driver concerned and the other drivers on the importance of slowing down and exercising better judgement when negotiating bends, the importance of checking for oncoming vehicles and signaling in advance prior to changing lanes, and adhering to other traffic rules and regulations. We will continue to monitor our drivers ↡ Advertisement

Obscurest 1st Gear May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 Well nothing wrong for them to reply in this way cos most or rather all govt sector or even Pte sector has a standard template to reply. The best is submit video and their reply will...... Still the same. Hianz
Flying_genie 6th Gear May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 Standard template reply by agencies. Also surprising that TP ask you to complain directly to SMRT instead of taking action themselves.
Metalsubzero Clutched May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 Certainly looks like a template to me.. Im guessing they received dozens of such complains.. Anyone got a similar letter from smrt?
Assaxefour 1st Gear May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 knowing PRC driver like to do this, one should always practice defensive driving when approaching bus stop.
Kb27 Supersonic May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 Yeap, defensive driving indeed. But if you're that unfortunate motorcyclist, you might be down on the ground with the driver shouting at you, that he has the right of way....the right to knock you down. The message is clear, stay away from bus. They are free to do whatever they want to do.
Proton_neutron 1st Gear May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 By right ahh, we suppose to give way to larger vehicles. Haha. That's defensive driving/ riding.
Kangadrool Supersonic May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 you can siam and take whatever precautions when approaching them, but there is no running away of they are coming from behind, from the sides................ It is still important to tighten the licencing (granting of driving licence to foreign workers and conversion) and enforcement which is poorly lacking here in Singapore. Sunlight 1st Gear May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 not defending the PRC driver. Maybe the guy just arrival 1-2 week, not given enough time to orientate, was told that they have right of way and so on.... They just follow instruction and assume things will be alright. When thing happen they are confused and become defensive and aggressive. Individually the person can be quite decent. Tone down the PRC bashing a bit. Turret Clutched May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 Hmm, can I suggest to SMRT or SBST to put up LED signs stating "AH TIONG DRIVING - BEWARE" in front and back of the bus? In this way, the passengers can choose whether to board the bus knowing AH TIONG is driving and board at this own risk. Motorist can also take will take extra care when such bus is within the vehicle vicinity. So no more excuse in blaming AH TIONG drivers should accident happen! Instead blame oneself for not taking additional extra care!

Not enough bus/drivers to go around so they have to go a little faster to make up for bus frequency standards.
Cheepo 3rd Gear May 31, 2012 Share May 31, 2012 Template replies.... I have given up on these big Singapore companies. My family recently was treated shabbily by Changi Terminal 3 staff, and wrote in to complain. After months... template reply that says NOTHING !! Sorry but I am not proud of these Singapore companies anymore.
