ST Forum: Tracing Vehicle Owners

Interesting article.

If the driver is a private property occupier then I see this may pose a challenge but if the driver resides in a HDB unit (either as a owner or renting it from someone else), he or she has to purchase a SPT so they have to provide their particulars to the board.

Unless they do not have SPTs and use day & night parking coupons instead or the HDB does not share their system data with the mata, I do not see how the vehicle driver is claimed to be untraceable in this case.

Tracing vehicle owners

ON MONDAY, a car alarm sounded at the carpark at Block 204, Compassvale Drive in Sengkang.

The matter was reported to the police, but at 1am yesterday, the alarm had not been switched off.

When I went to the carpark and asked a police officer about the matter, he said the police were unable to trace the current owner of the car, as it was registered to a company that was closed at that time.

This highlights an important issue about tracing vehicle owners.

How would the police handle more serious cases, such as vehicle break-ins and suspicious packages found inside vehicles?

There should be a system whereby the police can promptly trace all vehicles to their current owners.

A lot of things can be done, it's whether they want or not.

True.

Some times it is a matter of ma huan 麻烦 to some that things are just left like that as it is...

[rolleyes]
