Guys,

Do the people here know about the Public Consultation on the Land Transport Masterplan?

http://talk2lta.lta.gov.sg/ltmp

I am thinking for all the TCSS here, shall we have a discussion online in MCF, and agree on some plans and submit a MCF submission to LTA that is signed by all those who participated in the discussion.

Reason for this is

1) for all the TCSS here, it will be nice for MCF to do something "useful"

2) If we managed to agree on a set of policies and signed by a significant number of people, it might be more "convincing"

3) the discussion process is probably interesting (to me at least)

Just a thought... I might need a moderator to lead this effort if people think it is worth it.

What do you guys think?

To start things off,

my suggestion

We should scrap the weekend car and replace it with something more flexible.

Basically a separate and cheaper COE which pays a much higher ERP. Frankly, the government keeps asking families to have kids and if you have tried taking the public transport with a crying baby, you will understand why a car will help families with babies a lot.

A cheap car for housewives or retired grandparents will help families a lot. They could pick up the baby, go to market for groceries, etc. The working parents can use public transport while the ageing grandparents can drive a "cheap COE" car.

Such cars can also be used to send the baby for checkups, or on weekends for family outings.

Such a car will pay perhaps 10x the current ERP rates so that they will no contribute to existing peak hour congestion.

Any bad points?

Cars for everyone then our roads will be like Indonesia or Bangkok. A rental car or car shat ring scheme works better

No offense but what you mentioned are not priority. If families are sending their babies to infantcare, i think it's better to look for centers which are within walking distance so that you do not contribute to congestion. Housewife can always shop for groceries and have them delivered home if they are buying a lot otherwise can always take taxi as they are not in a hurry.

Sgp has a increasing aging population. Grandparents owning cars will only contribute to unnecessary congestion. They are retired and not in a hurry plus they have concession for taking public transport, if mobility got problem take taxi.

IMO the authorities can only do so much, a lot still depends on road users to work together in order for whatever masterplan to work.

Have COE pegged to 3x the price of OMV.

Bidding is one person one COE if successful no more tries for 3 years and must sell car within 2 months if COE successful.

Each car must drive for min 3 years then can sell. If car is destroyed within 3 years cannot bid again can buy from open market.

Do away with category for private cars.

Have category for goods vehicles and taxis. Bidding system retains.

all motorcycles to be 3 Wheelers no COE.

Road tax no change.

by law min 30% down payment and 70% loan Max 5 years. Outlaw cash rebates.

car population growth 1%

10 years no more rebate amount when you scrap you car.

Actually I'm thinking the opposite with the do away of coe. I would suggest to do away the commercial vehicle and taxi coe. That would help businesses and kerb inflation due to high transport costs. Taxi fares will be kept low to encourage ppl to take them rather dan ppl buying cars.

Your rest of the ideas are not bad which can be introduced gradually.

They must reduce and limit the population of human and traffic in this tiny island, else it will be hell for everyone.

A NEED or A WANT? this is the first criteria.
