some on them even punch an old auntie [:(] [:(]

food and beverage business is a difficult one. 'It's hard to hold onto staff and keep them motivated as it's so easy for them to get jaded and discouraged. The customers can be difficult, the hours long, the compensation is poor, it

So this complainer is complaining about Foreigner waitstaff. Foreign waitstaff who are rude and useless?

Many food outlets managers are also foreigners now.

Seems like foreigners service is also not much better! No wonder letter writer is writing in to complain.

Come one loh.....at $1100..... Transport already $200, another $300 for housing. Left $600 to eat and save and live.

Possible?

Of course even foreign waitstaff are not able to accept such low pay after staying in Singapore for a while, thus the high turnover rate.

Then whats the point of hiring foreigner waitstaff, to spoil the restaurant name and service.

Sad state of affair here.

Not to sound like Marie Antoinette, but $1,100 a month doesn

I think sometimes the business owners have to be more creative.

Some restaurants don't have jug of plain water on table, need to hassle the waiter just for plain water.

Make diners pay at the exit rather than have waiter walking to and fro (min 5 times) just to get the bill and payment done.

The lists go on and on....... and the business owners can continue to get away with it 'cos can still continue to import FT/FWs freely even today....

the partial solution...ask the restaurant owner to give up his maseeeraati....and instead settle with a bbbmmwww....give the 7% service charge back to those who deserve it...want to employ FT...no problem...just make sure I can understand what he/she is talking...and he/she understand what I am talking because my england not very powerderful !!! [laugh] [laugh]

ya...then then then...people will always come up with this reason...and that reason....!!!

Not happy? Can always cook and eat at home, eat at less expensive eating house.........

Let these money-sucking posh restaurants in the malls die a natural death.

Turbocharged

We mostly get pretty good service at restaurants and stuff.

Another complaint that I'll add - people invariably never understand my accent. Luckily with a chatty and friendly wifey this is overcome.

We always always always do please and thank you - and if we want something we ASK (no demand or assume). A lot of times we also get stuff for ourselves if it is visible (eg: extra bowls for the soup, spoons etc).

Nothing wrong with the service what... there isn't any in the first place how to be wrong

As if the work isn’t already backbreaking enough, the customers can be evil. At the severe risk of over-generalisation, the Singaporeans I served were rude and patronizing. The nicest bunch I encountered were the ex-pats. Almost without exception, the Americans, British and Australian tables I served would look me in the eye and engage in animated conversations. They made requests with smiles and reciprocated with, ‘Thank you!’

This part was true when i was a part-time waiter during my schooldays. The angmors were alot easier to serve then non-angmors, locals/non locals alike.

But it's also sad that why we demand good service? because knn prices for eating out is now so high. higher price = higher expectations.

we should follow china... complain only the service person will get money deducted from his salary..... hit them where it hurt most...... and service will improve

This is a very Singaporean way of thinking and is part of the problem with service standards -

It's always their fault - we never need to look at how we might be contributing to the problems

I think it would be fairer if the service charge of 10% goes to the waiters.

that i agree. but i also kenna really kns wait staff before. Most recently at MARMALADE PANTRY@ION ORCHARD. Wait staff took my order, then after waiting almost 30 mins, he came back and asked to confirm the order and he got the orders wrong. Which imo meant our orders were not taken. I wanted to leave but gf wanted to eat their pasta. So in the end waiting almost an hour for food. I made them remove the service charge from the bill which they did without question. But i will not step back in again.

i am just stating the way looking to improve service standard... though i agree customers have to do their part but that does not necessarily means the service staff will do their part...

If people want good service they just need to go to the right restaurants.

The ones with young gals in japanes uniforms who always say

"Yes Master" seen to have a good reputation for service.

I think we need to get more Japanese and Korea syt.

Now that's real foreign talent!

:D

Agree totally.

this money should be distributed evenly to all employees, the boss gets nothing.
