Tyre worn till chui!

Was out with a friend in his A6 for late night supper and on the way home, his front left tyre gave way on PIE. To cut the story short, it was much hassle, time wasted and a costly affair to have to get the car towed and 4 tires replaced (Dunlop SM TT) for $2k at City Tyre at 2am. His 19" BS RE050A was having inner wear at the front to the extent that the rubber was worn down to the carcass and eventually gave way. It could have disintegrated at higher speed, causing much more damage and a danger to all. Had regular rotation been done (car is lowered and has -ve camber), the wear would had been spotted much earlier, preventing such an expensive and dangerous event from occuring.

 

To all vehicle owners, please practise proper care on your tires :-

1) maintain tyre pressure at appropriate level for your vehicle;

2) check your alignment;

3) regular rotation;

4) replace on a timely basis, not wear till botak;

5) ensure spare tyre and tool kit is available in your boot (friend's tool kit was missing though tire available!)

Car was lowered so can't see the inside treads. Outside treads didn't seem too bad. Had he done routine rotation, he wouldn't have missed it. The tyre shop would had advised too.

No feeling one ah? I mean, when driving in the rain, the treadless contact patch would be aquaplaning like mad...... not only that, the change from driving on rubber to driving on tire inner belt would be apparent too......

Lowering isn't an excuse. He just failed to check his tire regularly. My car is lowered too and my tyres are checked weekly.

This neg camber is too much for daily driving,only suitable for tracks used.

Don't think so. He is just unaware. Lowered, spacers, all give -ve camber. Sure to wear inside tread. He was supposed to come with me to Desaru 2 weeks ago. Luckliy he didn't. Our vacation would be spoiled if this happened in M'sia.

Too many drivers out there dont check the overall car condition on routine basis. My in law can use their cars till the tyre left with 50% of air in the tyre and don't even bother and this is just one example.

can afford to drive A6 but not the tyre, rim is 19" maybe that's the reason. 19 inch very expensive.

Normal would be 16/17. 19 inch change all 4 cost half a bomb.

From the look of the tyre, I agree with the above reasons.

 

Some people only know how to drive! One morning last week, a "towkay" driving a maroon S500 dropping a kid at school, the left front tyre was flat! When the car was in motion, the loud "blop blop blop" sound did not attract his attention or he just ignored it!
