US MNC believes in rewarding their staff well as their beliefs is that human resource is an impt tool to bring the business to greater heights but they can be very quick to lay off employees as well when business is not doing well or when they feel the employee is not bringing enough contribution to the company.

Chinese MNC I not so sure but generally I think chinese tend to stinge on benefits and not much work life balance if you work for them.

US MNC or CHinese MNC, it depends on the person who's managing the Singapore Local Office.

Bro, US MNC also got "ang mo dua ki" kind of culture one. Cast away your jap "ah nor nair" value before joining US MNC. For mgmt role, most MNC still favor their own HQ "kind" of people like jap, German, Brits. Fact of life....

agree mostly prefer their HQ type, at least a fighting chance that managment speak english not jap language. looking at HP & IBM mostly local hire not ang mo from US, as the biz is locally driven given the next 20 year will be Asia region. what do you think??

I worked in a Jap firm, & then a German firm, no US firm, but so far, my friends have positive feedback working in USA MNC. Sometimes they have personal gym & something & more welfare & social orientated.

If you like the chance of oversea appointment or opportunities, in Japanese film, almost little chance other than training. In USA or Europe MNC, you may have a chance if you are somewhat decent. I know of one such person. [:p]

actually know someone working for US MNC working in management level, but there is a fixed term when u reach certain level say MD. then you are to make way for other ie the younger one to aspire as there is no more ""usefulness" given u r too expensive but serve as a mentor to others. of course they have already make their money.

I agree.....be it whatever firms, it boils down to where the top management comes from.

I used to work for a US MNC and now a German firm, ideas beri nice on whole as put by the Corporate but as you might know, local bosses many of them sucks big time. My time in the US firm has seen transition from ang moh boss to local boss, beri [shakehead] ......

Another case is someone I know in my line, European firm but top management all from a certain country in Asia...... [shakehead] big time............ [laugh]

HP chopping people. Their integration of EDS and Compaq us a screw up and company direction is unclear.

IBM is a political training ground and lots lots lots of processes that will piss genuine workers off.

Anyway, they are big names and better than any jap firms.

US firm likes wayang. The more fancy is your powerpoint, and the more you talk, you tend to get the promotion (of course must know the job but don't need a lot).

Chinese local MNC batter lah.

More half days and CNY benefits.

Less paper works.

I have worked in probably one of the largest local MNC before. They really do stinge on the benefits. Travelling wise, they expect that you chose a hotel not exceeding US$80 per night if you go KL and Shanghai.

US MNC, better benefits. I work in German company now, less perks and benefits maybe its becos of local boss and small setup. Chinese company still better, more family oriented
