Michelin PS3s (European Vs Thailand)

Just need to know the difference between so called PI (European) and Dealer made PS3s... The price difference between them is a whooping $40 (South East Tyres)...

 

I believe that most PS3 users are on the PI version... The guy over the phone told me that the Thai made are manufactured factoring the local weather and all...

 

Any comments about the difference between the 2?

Customers using PI tyres will unlikely cover by warranty so when they encounter defects, there is no one to one exchange, and they come in few containers and sell cheap cheap. whereas if tyres from authorised distributors, tyre dealers are able to get one to one exchange if it are defects and is cover with warranty, engineers are able to come down to inspect tyres and produce reports.

Actually I've not heard of anyone claiming warranty for tyres so IMHO the warranty thing is just a gimmick... Perhaps for a peace of mind but it's all in the head... The price for the Asian version is quite steep and brings the PS3 into another price level...

The warranty is not gimmick cos I have asked Bridgestone, Dunlop engineers before to come down n inspect the claimed tyres. Reports were written, submitted to us n a copy to the affected customers. Some of it were defect n some were due to customer negligence. Those on defect, it was replaced one for one free, as for those negligence, no free replacement but at a discounted rate for goodwill. Customers can argue until cow comes home but when the subject matter expert (sme) came down, they LLST.

 

Some tyres shops dun bother to get the salesman to activate the sme but I did so that we as business owner done our due diligence and ensure safety for our customers.

Is worth the trouble cos I am addressing my customers concern n to ensure my business reputation and branding are uphold n protected. We also have long standing working relationship with various major brands as we are looking for good after sales service from them as well.

 

U may see it a tyre but we see more than it. safety is paramount n should not be compromise in any way.

As far as i'm concerned, I have hardly (i say hardly, so maybe there are cases that slip through) heard of people claiming warranty for tyres after use.

 

Nowadays the tyres coming from reputable brands such as Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone (especially made in Europe, where QC is generally viewed with a greater degree of respect) are so well constructed that there's hardly any manufacturing defects. Unless it is caused by negligence of the user, due to ramming of sidewall, driving with insufficient air pressure leading to sidewall crack etc, tyres do not generally fail on its own. That said, it is these manufacturers that dare to provide warranty for the tyres, which are so often harped upon by shops selling "Authorised and Warranted tyres".

 

The same can't be said for lesser tyres especially those made in our region or China. These tyre warranties usually are conspicuously missing or have so much terms and conditions attached that we generally cant be bothered to navigate the red-tape and we simply buy another tyre (of a different brand cos I scared).

 

My personal experience with my friends PS3 (Thailand) is that it doesn't wear fast, but the tyre like lose its grip in a more exponential way than he preferred. He has since changed to a PI PS3 (Hungary) and feedback from him is that it wears much more linearly and the grip is very consistent, and told me not to believe the marketing BS for "local weather tyres". That being said, PS3s are still excellent tyres despite being 4 years old and can still hold their ground among the newer tyres such as CSC5 or Eagle F1A2.

 

Regarding PI or AD, as long as the tyre price is good, I'd suggest looking past the "warranty" aspect which is designed to take advantage of Singaporeans' innate kiasu-ism, and go for the shop that understands your NEEDS more, and provide adequate service and after-sales support.

let me share my view of PI and agent product.

Will i buy the PI tyre ? very umlikley WHY ? since i know the products are of Diff (not the quality) why not i choose 1 that is certified suitable for our usage rather 1 have to gamble (not risky)

Base on your friend exp on both tyre i cant comment BUT 1 thing for sure product are proven are diff (so i think that is why the factory can not honour the warranty)

You are right that most premium product are near defects free (but not perfect).

Just for gerneral information NOT ALL agent tyres are from Tomyam.

SO to buy PI or Agent products is individual choice (free market) so long we remember and responsible for your choice :D

can i use CAR as example, that is PI and Agent car here , so the choice is yours.

Professional Engineer certified the building is safe ( we are SAFE)

Building construction Foreman said (he is not qualified to certifed ) is SAFE ( answer ? depending on who is the Foreman )

150/pc is quite good.

 

bought at 165/pc in may... had to bought 1 pc at 165 few weeks back when something whack the sidewall and the sidewall just split.
