If you watch carefully, there is a headunit behind the ipad....

If you don't really care about using the steering wheel controls, then you can use any tablet

I prefer the ipads interface as well as the ability of it to become a huge screen GPS.

I'm tempted to try out the Torque app for Andriod, hence most likely an Andriod tablet.

Problem is, where can I get it done?

go down to a car audio workshop that specializes in custom jobs?

it would most probably involve plexiglass.

If you're handy with tools and know where to get plexiglass from, it might be possible to do a DIY job.

Damn this is when all those D&T lessons will come in useful.

it does, but the height is adjustable. i I raise it during hotter days so that aircon can flow through.

using tablet as HU has its drawback, interface with speaker and amp, integration with phone etc.

I had seen some android base HU but they are running out of date android and less known brands. support can be issue in the long run.

i've done it and learnt my lesson. spend lots of time making it "build-in" and lagi sui. power from fuse box, and audio out to aux in on hu. tablet had build in 3g which works well with google maps + navigation, showing road traffic conditions. had the occasional youtube for realtime music selection.

problem is that in singapore, outdoor parking is really HOT!

sometimes park outside under the sun, come back few hours later, whole tablet feels like on fire. Must always remember to remove from dash and store somewhere without direct sunlight, end up it's a hassle.... after a while, realised the tablet speaker died, then it started to act up.

Lesson learnt: tablets are not designed to be in the sun, and does not work well in sunny hot singapore.
