I have test driven the FXT before. Overall, very engaging drive & its indeed a powerful car. But a few chats with my mechanics , (I used 3 for their different expertise), they told me the same thing. "Stay away from Subarus"  All of them must have some hard on nightmares of Motor Image. Didn't pursue any further on this conversation as the FXT was decidedly not on our shortlist.

I beg to differ about staying away from subarus. I have had my so called prob subaru for almost 9 yrs now and will be renewing it for another 10. Parts do cost a bit more and petrol consumption is also higher but thats the price for power.. V solid car and durable.

Not all Mech are familliar with it they do have specialist work shops out there for subaru.

The family also has a mazda. Its a quality car imho for the price. Everything is still in order... But same goes for the Nissan we have hahaha...

So one can say buy Jap for a piece of mind :P

Neutral Newbie

I was informed by the sales person at Mazda that they do not carry any sales of Mazda accessories?!

And was asked to make any purchase on my own online?

Digging up an old post.

FYI - Mazda does carry accessories. Call their parts dept at 63957863.

Just be prepared to faint at the prices...

Of course. But it is also more powerful.

I am getting 10+km/l. I think CX-5 should be around 12+km/l.

With CX-5 costing at least 10k more upfront. Would your petrol saving match the 10k difference in 10 years?

Have you compare the servicing cost of mazda and Subaru? I think mazda also more expensive.

Ultimately, is down to individual preference. I see FXT as the cheapest 237bhp, 350nm car with a very high safety rating.

Forrester more thirsty ba?

Thanks for the info. I called to enquire. Indeed Mazda sells car accessories. Why did the SE lie about it? The prices quoted are really EXPENSIVE! For a set of CX-5 window visors, it costs $290 before GST and labor charge. Now I wonder if there's discount to buy thru' a Mazda SE?

Not transparent enough. You forgotten to add on to the OMV/paper value of the car in comparison. Forester has the lowest OMV amount its peer. That is one of the reason why at face value, their price look very attractive. Insurance also slightly higher, if I am not wrong.

Depreciation more important.

Based on SGCarmart:

CX-5 2.0A: 12700/year

CX-5 Premium: 1300/year

CX-5 2.5: 13500/year

FNA: 11400/year

FXT : 12100/year

About $6000 difference if you buy the CX-5 2.0A, $9000 if you buy the premium and 14000 if you want to the 2.5l which will bring you closer to FXT in performance.

I would compare CX-5 2.0A to Forester NA ( 12700 vs 11400) and maybe CX-2.5 to FXT (13500 vs 12100) because of the performance.

Considering the fact that Mazda servicing cost are higher, the advantage in petrol saving will never be enough to cover the difference for an average mileage driver.

You are paying premium for a mazda for its comfort and design. Personally for me, a bit too much because I look for performance more than comfort.

You know that annual depreciation is in consideration of the parf rebate after 10 years?

Parf rebate is based on the OMV you know?

Therefore annual depreciation is actually a very transparent way to look at cost of the car.

Haha.. Insurance higher but servicing cheaper.  Whatever you save from insurance is paid to Mazda for servicing. Left pocket out to right pocket.

CX5 2.0 premium prices for this round of COE went up from 138,888 (immediately after last COE bidding) to 143,888 (yesterday's price).  Looks like today's COE is going to be much higher.

Will know in 10 min time.

true.

to be honest. among the cars you stated. my top choice is still Harrier.

looks and performance.

only thing is that dealing with PI is a pain. and everything is in japanese.....

It could be there aren't so many CX-5 sold. The price of the CX-5 is much higher than Forester FXT, Vezel and even harriers after all.

Or the people who bought the car are your typical type of drivers who are interested only in the look and not car enthusiasts. Hence, they are not the type that comes to forums.

And then there are drivers like you who loves the car enough to buy it even though it is not value for money. I guess you belong to the minority and hence why few people comes online to share about the car.

I considered the car, it is a good suv no doubt, before but back off due to poor customer service at the showroom and the fact that it is quite pricey for the specification when there are other cars with better comfort or performance at lesser price.

CX-5 owners,

I bought a set of window visors/deflectors for the CX-5 and after having it on my car, I didn't really like the look. So decided to sell it. I bought it brand new from aliexpress for US$69.00. Used it only for a few weeks or so. Condition is good (easily 90-95% new). But pls note that I have removed all the double-side 3M tape. You will have to stick a set of new tapes to use it. It's very simple.

Will sell for just SGD$50 - cash and carry:)

what's the average petrol consumption for the CX5? 1L=11km and better?

I think I'm in a better situation to provide a clearer estimate of the fuel consumption, since I've been driving the 2.0(A) CX-5 for these few months.

Nearing high 5K in mileage now, the petrol consumption is between 12km/l and 13.5km/l.  Averagely, I travel 60% city and 40% highway.  I can't really describe my driving habit but I don't drive too slow nor do I "wack" my accelerator.  I would drive 'slightly' faster when situation permits:)

As for the type/brand of petrol, I get better mileage with 95 octane, as compared to 98.  I have used Caltex, SPC and Shell.

I hope to write a review of the CX-5 soon.

Hope this helps:)

Cant wait for your review.

How is the noise insulation so far?

I don't write well so takes me more time to put my thoughts into words correctly.

For noise insulation, it is good by my standards but I have to justify that I could only make comparisons with my previous rides, which included few Honda and Toyota models.  I do experience very slight wind noise if I hit higher speeds.

But the ride so far is really enjoyable [thumbsup]

Looking forward to your review coz there isnt a lot of review on CX 5. I did a test drive a couple of years ago but I dont think short test drive is a good gauge. Still interested in getting this CX 5 once my wife's honda expire in 2 years time. So any review will be good :D

Hi,

I wrote a short review on the Mazda CX-5. Not really very thorough though but I try to gist it.

Happy reading:)

Hi

Thumbs up for the review.

Few questions -

In your review, you mentioned the CX-5 do not have door auto-lock? Does that mean the doors wont lock automatically after you get in or after you get out or both?

What color choice did you get?

What is the GPS brand which was installed? So far so good?

Thanks again.
