Amx57 Neutral Newbie September 2, 2012 Share September 2, 2012 I was just told by a friend that there are counterfeit tyres sold here in SG. They are usually branded as Michelin or Continental which are made in China but sold off as the originals that are made in Germany or in Europe. Is there any truth to this? Has anyone had an experience with a counterfeit tyre before? ↡ Advertisement

Ungtiong 2nd Gear September 4, 2012 Share September 4, 2012 u mean parallel import? They are not fake, just no 'warranty'. Also made in asian country but sold as made in Europe is not fake, just misrepresentation...but some ppl actually look for made in asia (vs made in Europe)..like the PS3, they think the rubber compound is different and more suited for Singapore.... (the VERY common one is KYB shocks, all say Made In Japan, but price is more like made in Thailand. MIJ is NEVER cheap) Tyres not a good business to counterfeit...need large storage place and short shelf life, and very bulky to transport..... Roberttan 5th Gear September 4, 2014 Share September 4, 2014 (edited) personally no heard about counterfeit car tyre (for truck YES it did happened) world brand usually print or marked their tyre with country of production (very open) should we trust their integrity? Yes there are some pirate imported tyre exist in the market only setback is tyre manufacturers are not able to warranty this tyre because may be some technical or commercial reason. should you worry about imitation /counterfeit tyre ,one can always ask and make sure request for official invoice for proof of purchase. selling counterfeit product is an offence here (to me is considered cheating) Edited September 4, 2014 by Roberttan ↡ Advertisement
