do you agree on this statement?

i somewhat disagree. if you are not a scholar, you are hardly "spotted" and "groomed" in the fast track

we all know being a scholar ... the highway to success is laid nicely for you, isn't it?

if your academic is so-so even good but not excellent ie scholar ... that's a diferrent story altogether

unless you are born enterpreneur ... like steve job, bill gate, mark zukerberg, george lucas, google founder, etc ... they don't need to be scholar ... as their natural gene is not going to work under others :)

"Success is not and cannot be determined by what happened in your school years. That gives you a foundation but it should not be the basis for determining who succeeds in life. We have to provide opportunities for everyone to improve and to advance on the job regardless of the qualifications they started with," said Mr Tharman.

Academic achievement is not say not important coz knowledge is a safeguard that you won't go starving. Whether how far you can go depends on things like family background, the connections, the contacts which may bring you to places. Almost everyone is heading the same direction striving for academic achievement, in order to stand out it's not that easy.

But on the other hand if ppl dun study and start working early they have to compete with ppl with academic achievement in the working environment which I think it's even tougher. Unless you know something they don't you will find it even harder to survive.

i have seen several cases, a normal guy with normal degree ... work many years ... gather good knowledge ... good experience with a lot of know-how ... promoted to senior manager or asst director level at late 30 coming to 40

sekali a new guy come in as his boss ... early 30 ... max 35-36 ... why? he is a scholar so called "genius" with bright brain and "potential"

I dont know about other countries, but in sgp academic is very very very important. If you scored a D7 in english back in your secondary, this grade will haunt you forever and you will have many problems in future. Example like if you want to enrol some courses maybe conducted by some govt school, the basic entry requirement could need at least a C6 in english, so you are finished if you do not have one. :D

inner circle ... if you are not "there" you are not inside the inner circle ... hehe

a group of 9a/10a students and 2a/3a students ... they are groomed differently, aren't they?

But a D7 still can go to poly....still not so bad......I got 1 friend who failed 7 out of 8 subjects and the only 1 pass is CL2........he became a regular in SAF then...... -_-

during reservist, i see my past "clever" school mates are under me.

during work, i see this happens too.

however, academic is still as important especially to serve as a stepping stone to work society.

unfortunately, all your distinctions in your school days, you can't bring them into your rice bowl. that's for sure.
