Just wondering who here is from a screwed up background but managed to make something for themselves.

Care to share the struggles you had to face and how you eventually made it?

I think it would make for a positive thinking and informative thread.

True. I'm too trusting with friends too. Lost a lot of $$$ [bigcry] My wife always angry with me over that. What to do?

I'm not qualified to be a so call rag to riches as not rich now also, but as TS mentioned that he started this thread to be sort of a life sharing thinggy.. So I just shared my little background.

I stopped school in 1997 after completing poly, Worked in a architectural firm drawing a salary of $1250 for 3 months and $1500 and after probation. I had to pay $400 in room rental with my $1.2-1.5k pay at the same time. And I was trying to save up for my architectural degree which I intend to pursue after 4 years.

After 8 months of working there, kana retrench due to Asian economic crisis without any additional benefits. Left to suck thumb for 1 month, then got a job in a small SME in e FMCG industry doing operations and deals with supermarkets.. After 2 years, pay increment sucks, company refuses to grow and still stuck with 7 days annual leave, I tendered and wanted to become a remisier as Peter Lim got me really inspired, but unfortunately couldnt pass the exam after 3try. Realized I can talk a little and decides to sell insurance so joined AIA in 2000, then after that moved to work in banks.

Things got a little better and bought first property in 2003 and kept it rented out.. And in 2006, decides to be my own boss and quit my job with 6 years of savings. Things didn't work out and business folded a year later and so I decides to day trade with my savings, Unfortunately I got greedy, the tracings were all well but went all wrong when I leveraged and in 2007-2008 I lost all my savings and still owe $60k to the securities firm.
