What big biz you do?

So among #2, 4, 5, which one is best for normal petrol cars? And which one is near $60 or $200?  [laugh]

The cheap and good is elusive. Everything i buy, i start with that criteria. Dunno where they hide...

I sell car batteries, sometimes customers asked for jump starting only.

#2  - relatively cheap and good then, is now a better deal. Cheaper, maybe better, now appears to come with a box

https://www.amazon.com/PowerAll-PBJS12000R-Rosso-Portable-Starter/dp/B00D42AFS8/

chiong one is around $60, Noco genius GB40 is $200 with shipping from ebay.

I'd recommend you #2 for petrol engine, but since currently Amazon does not ship, you might try this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Antigravity-Batteries-AG-XP-10-Multi-Function-Starter/dp/B00I9HGMYO/

But I'd probably find one with LiFePo battery as it's a safer option.

Bcuz of my business I bought a lot of jump starters.

1. Expensive big box type with SLA lead-acid battery - battery died after about 8 jumps. I never replaced that battery

2. Powerall lithium-ion jump starter from Amazon - USA design, made in china - still working

3. chiong Powerall - from china. Battery suddenly became pregnant and bursting out of the case. I disposed of it due to fire risk.

4. unknown "high-power" lithium-ion - can jump start and also power notebooks, still working

5. Noco Genius GB40 (super safe) rated at 1000A - I bought this to jump start diesel engine, but its success is low thus far. Jump start petrol engine no problem.

So the price range from cheap $60 to over $200, depending on what your want.

Cheap and good is hard to find.

I got 2 and 5. [:)]

My AA supplied Hoppecke battery lasted 3.1 year, still can start. Called AA for replacement, tio suaned by the mechanic. :XD:

He said still strong, why change?

Mine ride is problematic electricity-sucking conti used for mostly short distance driving only, also can last 3 years, simple Japanese cars should be able to last 5 years especially those battery top up water one.

I am still waiting for the bro 5 year change once battery.. pray tell la.. which brand who supply?

paging paging.. can share what brand where buy?

guys, i really dont know leh. to spend $100 on a jumpstarter which i wont be using for 2 years. by the time i need, the battery maybe flat and i need to recharge before use.

for that $100 maybe AA gives you not only jump start but help change tire for a year. of course you may not need both for 2 years.

any contacts for mobile battery replacement service. maybe that is another good option.

I just found this. I think it's better due to LiFePo battery used. Supposed to be 12.8V (4 x 3.2V)

Li-ion battery have 12.6V (3 x 4.2v)

Click to the right and choose Amazon seller

Buy it before Amazon stop shipping to Sg. [laugh]

I have the honour of being saved by you using item 2. Which leads me to buy my own jumpstart battery...

Thank you. :)

The Schumacher SL1 even has reverse polarity protection. [thumbsup]

Look at this video near the end, where the clamps were intentionally reversed.

For AA to rescue you, be prepared to wait. The more ulu and peak period, the longer you have to wait.

:a-m1212: :a-m1212: :a-m1212: wonder if they sell this here locally? The only thing about this video is, why he clamp the negative terminal to the body instead of the battery's negative terminal? I would think clamping directly to the terminal would be safer because although the entire body is earthed, sometimes dirt and paint work may not give your the best connectivity. Just my observation.

This jump starter is for american market, I doubt it will sell here anytime soon, unless someone bring it in.

Clamp to the body is a safety thing.

The last point of connection always spark.

If the battery was bad, leaking gas, it might start a fire, if the spark was at the battery post, instead of sparking at the body.

The other thing to watch out for is a super-heated battery. You can feel the heat on the casing with your hand and usually smells of rotten egg.

If it's really hot, do not try to jump start. In most cases, the casing will crack and the battery "explode" spewing corrosive acid.

What happens is that it has one or more shorted cells, and the rest of good cells are overcharged by the alternator, causing it be very hot.

thank you highlighting the last point of termination. i wonder why AA guy still clamp on the battery terminals.

There are many things people can do wrongly, either through ignorance or insisting it's ok, since nothing happens when they have doing the same way for x no. of years.

Schumacher SL1 is really a good idea, from the newer generation of lithium jump starter.

1. It has a LiFePo battery, which is intrinsically much safer than the regular LiCO, also called Lithium-ion. LiFePo is generally more expensive to produce, but it's not as susceptible to thermal runaway which you see in lithium-ion battery exploding in fire.

2. It has reverse protection

3. It has a useful display for voltage, which tells how low the battery you want to jump start is. The lower the voltage, the harder it will be to jump start as more current is needed.

I looked through the chinese product at aliexpress and the newer ones just have a display, but no LiFePo battery.

And yes, I just bought one from Amazon. [laugh]

The instructions for my jumpstarter also say to clamp to both terminals. This is the first time I see connection to car body for a jumpstarter battery.
