They are penny wise pound foolish - just have no idea what is customer service. High time they close shop.

Very unfortunate indeed.

Maybe we can list down the shops that use backup power while changing battery

- Guan Lee Tyre (change battery for 2 cars there), mr Tay automatically will use another battery to power the car thru' the 12V socket

- KB Lee - Freelancer. Include roadside rescue service. Will use another battery on car 12V socket also. Changed once with him.

Keep the list going guys.

Eng Wah (Vincent) at Lor 8 T Payoh. He plug a 9v battery into the car ciggy socket.

Sorry to borrow this thread..

Will a car battery tester ever show "negative" life?

Told my ws to check my battery and he plug in the battery voltage tester

It shows "Life - 93%"

and my mech says is negative (-)93% and must change.. voltage is 13V+

At the bottom of the screen it wrote " Replace Battery"

Is there such a thing as negative life?

Think you need to look at the CCA reading also.

13V (if engine is not running) is dam good reading, why change?

Voltage at 13V is the surface charge. This is there after the charging (alternator) is switched off.

Surface charge will dissipate after a few hours, and the battery will be back to 12.6V (fully-charged).

If this is a CCA tester, its test is based on the spec of the battery.

Example a battery spec at 600A, when new will measure around 600A or more, equals to 100% life.

After some usage and aging, CCA will drop, say to 550A. You just do a simple % and get that X% life.

So battery life is always negative in that sense.

So it's important for this kind of tester to set the proper setting (SAE, CCA, DIN, EN, etc.) before doing measurement.

Bcuz the life computed is based on that initial setting and when to pronounce "Replace battery".

In other words, a shop can "cheat" you into changing battery by purposely setting it wrongly and make that "Replace battery" appears.

- Lee Hup Battery @ Sin Ming Autocare. He uses a small battery during change. Nothing resetted after that.
