Michael Schumacher is to call time on his F1 career at the end of the 2012 season.

Schumacher, who originally retired in 2006 before returning to the sport with Mercedes in 2010, announced the news at Suzuka on Thursday.

"I have decided to retire from Formula One at the end of the season, although I am still able to compete with the best drivers of the world,

He's just there to mentor the other German guy in the same team lah.

If you had watched the Stallone show "Driven", you will understand why he came back.

In the past there were F1 driver comebacks and won championship like Niki Lauder and Nigel Mansel but in the past computer tech did not advance that fast a pace. Very slim chance for him to be able to catch up IMO.

Retire In Peace. [:p]

Should have just stay retired in 2006.

Now instead of being known as 7 time world champion, people will remembered him as the champion who came back but performed poorly.

Haiz there goes my idol. Didn't get to see him in a competitive car, quite interested to know if he is still good enough at his age. Definitely not as fast as he used to be though.

He was beating Rosberg in the 2nd half of this year. i feel he still got it in him and F1 news mentioned it was his own delay that led Merc to go for Lewis. I think he's come to a point where he wants a winning car and he's probably unsure of Merc and no top team would take him.

I dun mind his "comeback" but the media coverage was too much macham he pau chiak. Compare Kimi's return, not so much fanfare but results much better then the 7x ex-champ.

Actually I'm glad he's out

I've grown up seeing the greatness of Schumacher in the late 90s and early 2000s. The greatest of him IMO came in the battles with Mika Hakkinen.

Ever since his comeback to the sport in the last 3 years, I felt that he still got wats in him just that he is not longer great as compared to his peak but nonetheless he did a great job as he's already in his 40s. But we will never know how competitive he will be if given a car with similar pace as the top teams.

He will always be remembered as one of the all time greats in F1 history.

Schumacher's battles with Hakkinen showed how much a bigger man and a true champion Hakkinen is.
