There is going to be a Carbon emission based scheme starting from jan 2013 right? Was wondering if the rebates for low emission cars will be given to buyers directly, like OPC rebate? Anyone knows?

The current rebate is at 40% of OMV.

Take Prius C for example, OMV at $22k, the rebate amount is $8.8k, you are left with $13.2k, after 10 years you get back $6.6k

OMV = $22k

Rebate $8.8k

Balance OMV = $13.2K

Parf rebate after 10 years = $6.6k

Under new scheme, Prius C falls into Band A1 which entitle $20k rebate BUT LTA requires the car OMV to have at least $5k balance, therefore max rebate will be at $17k, after 10 years you get back 2.5k.

OMV = $22k

Rebate $17k

Balance OMV = $5K

Parf rebate after 10 years = $2.5k

It still seems like a good deal to purchase next year, but when I got my Prius C, BM actually gave additional $4k off for the green rebate in advance, which actually adds everything back to 17K rebate(provided I drive for 10 years). I'm not sure the green rebate still valids as currently there are other promo going on.

You also have to look at the COE, current COE level is so crazy that all the rebate given looks insignificant.

For more info, you can actually refer to the below. IMO, getting a car in Singapore be it hybrid or normal is just the same which is why you hardly see any running on the road. In neighbour country, they are getting zero tax on their hybrid cars which makes it extremely attractive.

It depends on your leg, I have driven my cousin RX400h, you have to know how to get the car running in Motor mode frequently to save. Even if you don't you should be getting at least 50% better than just the normal version for example 8km/l vs 13km/l.

For myself, I manage to get around 30km/l on good days, on average, 27km/l.

Maintenance is no difference from other car because the inverter motor doesn't need servicing until 150k km, and it's just changing of coolant. Simple as that.

Our policy is still far away from support the green car. seem like the finance dept cannot stand to loose the petrol tax :D

As long as it's a vehicle that uses petrol or diesel on the road, it will never be supported by SG govt.

The petrol tax is very true as well. Msia get zero tax for Hybrid because their fuel is heavily subsidize, more hybrid cars MY road = less fuel used = less subsidize.

Their zero tax for hybrid ends at 1800cc, any car beyond will still get taxed as per normal as it's deem to be luxury and not good FC enough.
