Woodlands Secure Former Dutch International Khalid Hamdaoui

Monday, January 14, 2013

Woodlands Wellington have secured the signature of former Raja Casablanca midfielder, Khalid Hamdaoui. Having played for Scottish side Dundee Football Club as well as several Dutch clubs in the Eredivisie, the Dutchman possesses the most impressive track record amongst the Rams' new foreign signings this season with four senior caps for the Dutch national team.

Born on July 30, 1981, the 1.78m tall Khalid was born in the Netherlands and was a product of the prestigious Ajax Amsterdam youth academy, rubbing shoulders with Roy Makaay and Rafael van der Vaart during his time there.

At the tender age of nine, Khalid played at the schoolboy level for SC Overamstel for two years before he was roped into the Ajax Academy. Following that, he moved to Dutch Eredivisie clubs AZ Alkmaar and NAC Breda in 1998 and 2000 respectively, playing two seasons for each club. In recognition of his ability, he was called up to represent the Dutch Under-21 National Team where he appeared 18 times for the Jong Oranje between 1996 to 2001, scoring 5 goals in the process.

In 2001, Khalid decided to move to Asia to broaden his horizon. He was eventually signed up by Tokyo Verdy 1969, one of the most decorated teams in the J-League, after they were impressed by his Ajax Academy background and the Dutchman got to play alongside Edmundo - the Brazilian star having been acquired by the club during the mid-season transfer window.

Following his stint in Japan which lasted for one season, Khalid spent a year in Portugal with Primeira Divis

Brunei DPMM eyeing former Croatia international Ivan Bosnjak

http://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/3875/transf...al-ivan-bosnjak

Brunei DPMM is set to pull off a major transfer coup in their history, as they look to sign former Croatia international Ivan Bosnjak.

The Brunei Times have reported that Bosnjak has landed in the Sultanate for a tryout with the team and the striker apparently impressed coach Vjeran Simunic during their training session at the Jerudong Mini Stadium.

Bosnjak tasted action as the 2006 World Cup in Germany, having come on as a substitute for captain Darijo Srna in the closing stages of their Group F match against Japan.

The 33-year-old, who made his debut in a friendly against Slovakia in 2000, has 14 international appearances to his name and scored his only international goal against Hong Kong seven years ago.

Bosnjak started his professional career in 1996 with Croatian top division club HNK Cibalia under the guidance of Simunic before making the switch to Hadjuk Split four years later, where he was named the league

DPMM FC trial for former Arsenal forward Francis Jeffers

The 32-year-old could be another high-profile name to turnout for S.League side Brunei DPMM FC in 2014

Following the surprise announcement of Steve Kean as the new Head Coach of S.League side Brunei DPMM FC late Saturday night, the club have now revealed that Francis Jeffers will be arriving in November for a trial.

Jeffers is currently on a season-long contract with League Two side Accrington Stanley, having had short-term spells at Newcstle United Jets in the A-League, Motherwell and Floriana of the Maltese League, following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday in 2010.

A product of the Everton youth system, he made his first team debut for the Toffees at the age of 16 and a promising start to his senior career caught the interest of Arsenal, who signed him in a £8million deal. Failure to live up to his early promise saw Jeffers move on to Charlton Athletic and Blackburn Rovers.

The 32-year-old has one England cap, scoring on his debut against Australia in 2003, and with 13 goals, is still the joint leading scorer with Alan Shearer for the England U21s.

Jeffers will be joined at his DPMM trial by former Malaga defender Daniel Orozco Alvarez. The 26-year-old centreback is a free agent and was last at Hungarian side Lombard-Papa TFC after a three-year spell with Asteras Tripoli FC of Greece.

Former Blackburn boss Steve Kean to lead DPMM in 2014 S.League

The S.League will welcome its first high-profile name from the English Premier League next year with the ex-Rovers boss

Steve Kean, who led Blackburn Rovers in a tumultous two-year period is set to be S.League club Brunei DPMM's Head Coach for the 2014 season according to news confirmed on the club's official website.

Kean left Rovers in September last year, stating he had been forced to resign, with the club in third place in the Football League Championship.

A former first team coach, he was installed as caretaker manager with Rovers following Sam Allardyce's sacking in December 2010 and was given the role permanently a month later, but was unable to prevent the Lancashire club from being relegated the following season.

Kean stayed on despite heavy pressure and criticism from fans, before leaving his post at the start of the 2012/2013 season.

The Glasgow native had previously expressed interest in coaching in Asia in an interview with Sky Sports in July.

"I'm open-minded enough to consider all areas of the world whether it's Asia, the UK or Europe," he told skysports.com.

"I have been in Europe and the UK but I've never coached or managed in Asia, although it's something I would certainly consider. I have no preference really. I'm just to open any good offers."

Kean will be replacing Croatian Vejran Simunic who annouced his departure from the 2013 S.League League Cup runners-up earlier this month.

Simunic led DPMM to a second-place finish in the 2012 S.League season and won the League Cup as well but failed to replicate the success this year, with DPMM slated to finish in the bottom-half of the S.League.

DPMM have also confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Tosi will be retained, with the club in the hunt for a big-name marquee signing.

The Bruneian club will also be involved in a Participation Agreement Renewal Signing Ceremony with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) on Tuesday morning at the Jalan Besar Stadium. The ceremony will be graced by FAS President Mr Zainudin Nordin, Mr Lim Chin, CEO, S.League, Deputy Chairman of DPMM FC, YAM Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim bin Pengiran Indera Mahkota Pengiran Anak (Dr) Kemaludin Al-Haj, and Mr Mohd Ali Haji Momin, Team Manager, DPMM FC.

The S.League is currently four rounds away from concluding the 2013 season. Tampines Rovers have a 12-point lead and are on course to retain their title. The 2014 S.League season is expected to begin in mid-February.

This guy is a credit to his profession [thumbsup]

Dedicated, professional and definitely not like some other sportsman FT who just come and

get his citizenship, earn his money and say good-bye to us.

He has been active in ST pocket fund I remember and other charitable causes.

On top of that, adopted a son and will make Singapore his home.

Well done Alex, thks for the commitment and enjoy your retirement!!
