My guess here is that you want to hook your S3 to your cars audio system and charge the phone at the same time right?

Also your car's headunit only has an aux in right?

From what i gather, unless your car's radio supports android, you'd have to get 2 separate cables.

One usb and one 3.5mm jack.

I'm was going to ask the same thing also...

Just change from iphone to S3 and would like to hook up my S3 to the car audio. Just like iphone where I just need to plug into my car audio and I would be able to control it through my audio panel on my steering wheel.

The cable for iphone comes with two head, USB and aux. Does it work it I could find a similar 1 with the two head but for S3?

I drive a Kia and the car audio was fitted with a usb and an aux docket together with the cable with the 2 heads. Normally I would just plug my iphone to the cable and I would be able to charge and listen to music at the same time.

Recently just change my iphone to S3 therefore unable to plug and play my S3 into my car audio.

I believe there should be a similar cable for S3 since both the car and the phone are MIK? Dun think I need to change my car audio just so that I can plug and play my S3 yah?? In fact, Kia should make their car audio compatible to S3 more than iphone....

I wonder if a normal cable with a S3 head on the other end is suffice....

It is actually a usb port + aux port side by side right? Why don't you try plugging in the micro usb cable that u use for connecting to pc and see if the headunit recognise your s3 as a thumbdrive.

If the headunit recognise the s3 as a thumbdrive, then you should be able to access your media files on the s3 through the headunit.

The likely reason why the audio signal needs to be channeled into the headunit via the aux connector is due to the design of the connector on the iphone. USB inteface is a digital serial interface, not an analog interface like the aux interface. Since both the s3 and headunit has a usb interface there is a high chance that it will work with just the usb cable.

But if you are on Android ICS for your s3, you might have a problem, unless you root your phone to enable Mass Storage mode. You need to read up on Android ICS and Mass Storage mode.

I tried to hook my S3 to my car audio using the USB cable but it failed to read at all...

It doesn't register my S3 as a thumbdrive...

However when I plug in a thumbdrive, my car audio will able able to detect the media file and start playing the music that is store inside my thumbdrive...

Any advice??

There are 2 ways, but I'm using my experience with the S2 as a basis:

1. Switch on 'Connect storage to PC' under "Wireless and Network"/"USB utilities". This allows your phone to act as an external HDD, thereby allowing the same method of reading of information as the thumbdrive.

2. I used to own this Belkin set that takes power from cigarette adapter. It has a USB plug and provides an AUX wire-adapter which I used to plug into my car's AUX slot. Good thing was, I can listen music and answer calls. Bad thing was, it burnt out after constant baking in the Tuas heat.

So far, the best system for Android phones I've experienced is still the bluetooth sync. So changing your audio to a bluetooth syncable one is the best but also the most expensive method.

Then, there is also Parrot. Parrot MKi Products

Though, I'm not sure if it works with Android, since most of them are for iPhone/iPods.

The problem with s3 is that samsung has removed the USB Mass Storage option from the Android OS. The best solution is to just use a thumbdrive.

Yup, S3 dun have the USB Mass storgae function already.

Will my S3 still work on my car audio if I managed to find a cable with both the aux and usb docket but with the S3 plug on the other end?

If there such a cable in the market right now?

Hi All,

Just to check, if I plug a multi Usb port into my car audio through USB, and use the USb multi port to plug my thumbdrive in (to listen to song) and plug my S3 to charge my hp, plug my Ipad to charge, will it affect my car battery in anyway?

Not likely to affect your car battery if you are doing that while driving. But I don't think your s3 and ipad can be charged that way as the USB port from the HU can only output 500ma. You ipad probably requires 2000ma to charge, your s3 probably requires another 1000ma. BTW which kia model are you driving?

Currently, I can charge my S3 by plugging my S3 usb cable into my car but cannot play music....

so currently it's either i charge my S3 or I plug in my thumbdrive and play music

That why I'm contemplating whether a multi usb port can help me to charge my S3 and at the same time play music from my thumbdrive...

or you can get adapter from cig socket to USB socket... and, voila! You have 2 separate USB connections! [;)]
