Ar? The YF-23 Black Widow was flown in the 1980s in a head to head competition against the YF-22 which evolved into today's F/A-22 Raptor. Supposedly it performed better in all respects that the YF-22 but the '22 was chosen due to engine commonality, or some other mundane reason.

Its the same mindset that's seen US carriers use the basic Hornet platform to play the roles of intercept, attack, tanker, electronic warfare where there used to be 4-5 aircraft types to carry out each task. The term jack of all trades, master of none, come to mind.

Wrong info dude. The YF23 was not chosen as the airforce prefer the F22 raptor. Only 2 prototypes were built, all in some museum...

Thanks

But the YF 22 was not chosen and they went back to re-develop the YF 23 Black Widow II which is more faster and stealth than the F22 Raptor. This latest one sucessfully tested only in 2010. Maybe I am worng about this.

There will be some bros in mcf, expert in this will come in to explain... [nod]

This is my favourite Stealth Fighter that was never built. In the 1980s, US govt revealed they were building stealth aircraft. Based on the sketchiest of info, model makers came up with their own creative interpretation.

wing shape seems like not for a dogfight role?

interceptor/bomber maybe replacement for SR71 but lost to F117?
