ins1dious Turbocharged August 7, 2016 Share August 7, 2016 (edited) oh ffs... what's this shit story all about... Theo Walcott is a striker, says Arsenal manager Arsene WengerTheo Walcott is still struggling to find his best position with Arsenal. (Picture: Getty)Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that he still considers Theo Walcott a striker, not a winger. Much has been made of Walcott’s stuttering career after the player himself repeatedly declared his desire to be deployed as a striker but, after failing to find the net on a consistent basis, the England man has found himself in limbo over his best position. At a critical point in his career, the 27-year-old appeared to accept defeat in his bid to become a striker and admitted that he had told Arsene Wenger to switch him back to the right side of midfield – a position that he flourishes in, according to the stats. However, in a bizarre and confusing turn of events, Wenger has revealed how he still considers Walcott to be a forward. ‘I believe [Walcott] has all the ingredients to be a great striker,’ he told the media after Arsenal’s 8-0 win over Viking in pre-season. Theo Walcott celebrates his goal against Viking FK. (Picture: Getty Images)‘He has the quality of his runs, he’s a very intelligent player, he’s a good finisher. He’s not a great defender so to use his runs in the final third for us could be very efficient. ‘On the flank today so much defensive work is asked of the players. You lose a lot of his qualities when you put him there. ‘I don’t really doubt that for me, in my head I will use him more up front,’ Weneger added. (Picture: Getty)Despite his poor goalscoring record in the Premier League, Wenger actively defended Walcott’s performances as a striker. ‘Especially one game that was a question for Theo Walcott was at Man United [a 3-2 defeat in February], where everyone questioned him in his position,’ the Frenchman added. ‘Because on the day he didn’t perform well. But it was not only Theo Walcott who didn’t have a great game, it was everybody. But from then on people became sceptical.’ Edited August 7, 2016 by ins1dious
ins1dious Turbocharged August 8, 2016 Share August 8, 2016 I thought Walcott played reasonably well playing in the wings and coming in from the right.

Matoonia 6th Gear August 8, 2016 Share August 8, 2016 agree... he seems to score from when coming from the wings Yes I saw the goal it was a nice 1-2 with Sanchez. Not sure if this is good thing as he just started playing better when we are 1 week away from start of season and if this means Wenger will not get a proper striker anymore. But I think a CD is a Must now, with Gabriel stretchered out of the game. That means we are w/o Mert, Gab and Kos already. Most experienced CDs is now Holding

Matoonia 6th Gear August 8, 2016 Share August 8, 2016 (edited) chambers more experienced lar.... lol Rob holding played more than 30 games as a CB for Bolton last season, while Chambers played more on RB, and occasionally CB and even DM. So in terms of CB experience, Holding is much experienced than Chambers. I am quite sure Holding will start. Hopefully we will see another CB paired with him for our opener against Pool Edited August 8, 2016 by Matoonia

Yes shd be this pair, if no more incoming transfers. Though I still secretly wish to see Mustafi, or better still John stones. Heck, I think at this point in time even Jonny Evans is also OK. Not that I don't believe in our youth but we are really short in that area. How many CDs from our past senior teams have come from our academy? Only one I can think of is Tony Adams, who ironically has left our youth team and went to China to look after their youth. Strikers, wingers or attackers we can still tap on youth team and I'm all for giving players like gnarby, Iwobi, zelalem and Akpom a run cause I think they have the quality. CDs are a very specialised breed of players and I don't think makeshift players can excel there. and if we have 3 of our first choice CDs out, we have to add reinforcement right now.

And BBC just reported Gabriel out for 8 weeks! http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37023804 Really looks like a Holding-Chambers pairing for our opener against Pool
