Ben5266 Supercharged December 5, 2012 Share December 5, 2012 I always stay at a small motel near to ShuangLian TRT station and McKay Hospital. It's call Wish Hotel. Cheap, clean and quiet. Very convenient as it's near to subway, near to the bus stop which can go to airport and also near linsen beilu.... heehee... I went Taipei several times. But only Hotel - factory, factory - hotel. Luckily the dinner was good. ↡ Advertisement

Adrianli Hypersonic December 5, 2012 Share December 5, 2012 Also not forgetting to visit Guan Hwa Plaza, their version of Sim Lim Square, only bigger n more shops. Lots of Car cam for u to choose n buy. Lots of computer stuff. If u are into lasers, they also have powerful ones that can burn paper, illegal to own in SG, not sure how to evade custom. Altivo 3rd Gear December 5, 2012 Share December 5, 2012 (edited) Just came back from Taipei last week. Weather would be cold and rainy now. Mostly light drizzle. Bring a light umbrella. This was what I did - National Palace Museum (2-3 hours) - Danshui old street + Fisherman's Wharf. The latter was nothing much honestly so don't waste time. - Wu Fen Pu for shopping (take MRT to Hou Shan Pi). This is their wholesale market. Opens after 12 noon till 11 pm. Thousands over shops. Don't go on a monday cos it's meant for wholesellers and they would not entertain walk in customers. In fact, the vendors from the night markets get their stock from Wu Fen Pu. So you can bargain and get it cheaper but down side is you can't try on. They don't allow that. - Taipei Zoo .Can see Koala bears and Pandas. Admission only $5 for the whole zoo and can pay using the Easycard - After Zoo take the gondola up to Maokong to sip tea at the tea plantations - Spend the whole day on the Pingxi Branch Line. Can stop at ShiFen, Pingxi and Qingtong which has old school japanese stations. A rice rustic feel which is different from the modern taipei. Here can release 天灯 (sky lantern) - go Beitou for hotspring. Got time, can go up Yang Ming Shan even though now is super cold with nothing much to see - visit taipei 101 - visit the night markets. I like Rao He night market. It's just next to Wu Fen Pu with lots of things to eat. Shilin (alight at Jian Tan station. Not Shilin station) is too touristy but it's a must go if you haven't. Shida night market even though much smaller is a must go if you wanna see their university meimeis! Edited December 5, 2012 by Altivo

Heng51 2nd Gear December 5, 2012 Share December 5, 2012 Going to Taiwan next week for free & easy. Identified 2 cities to go, Taipei and Tainan. Other cities visit next year. Apart from the norm (night markets, temples, sceneries, 101 & shopping) anything exciting in Taipei or Tainan not mention in tour companies itineraries. Thanks. I tried this when I was in Taipei in 2010, based on recommendation from friends. Not bad. http://www.grandvictoria.com.tw/en/dining_168.php
