PRC thumbing down Singaporean's bilingual ability, as usual

Another PRC turned SINGER sauning Singaporean's bilingual ability, or the lack of on overseas forum...

From his post, he clearly thinks most singers are pretty inferior where spoken language goes

So what's new

Please let us contribute Chinese localization?

Hi developers and gamers!

I haven't bought XCom yet, too busy. And I do habitually wait 6-12 months after release for the bugs to fall off. (bought Civ 5 and played it 12 months later, it was fabulous)

I'm thinking I may buy XCom in Jan or Feb.

I see the forums talk of many bugs still. But I'm glad they also tell me that XCom is the game I've been wanting. It's tough, realistic, gritty. Even to the extent that many casual gamers (those not prone to sholarly study of facts and figures and random-number-generators in games) mistakenly label XCom as "broken and unfair". And if I can't pay more for it, I might as well contribute to it (see request below).

I'm once again trying my luck with developers with regards localization. I wanna do a Chinese translation for free, and have it incorporated officially. (Tried and failed with Mass Effect trilogy, plus a few other AAA titles. Am surprised to find XBox's Gear of War has Chinese, but not PC's.)

Why? I want my wife and her family to share my joys in gaming. Yes, we WERE from China, but we live and contribute in Singapore now. No, we don't pirate games (you know Singapore, right?). I only believe in official updates and bug-fixes (not open-sourced, can't check for malware myself).

(I maintain strong biz ties with China. My Chinese accent is fluent, expressive, original. I don't speak the Chinese used in Singapore: stunted, handicapped in both enunciation and vocab. Hence, my enjoyment of Chinese still. I speak USA English, by the way. Singapore English is also stunted, but not as much as Singapore Chinese.)

In short, please do allow for Chinese localization? Publish it only in Singapore if you want. Or even in USA/Europe, where I'm sure there are lots of Chinese-speaking folks. Ok, I do realize how pointless that localization effort will be.

There's also the question of Taiwan or China Chinese characters (old and new). Taiwan market is richer, but China's Chinese is more standard and widely used. Similar to how USA market is generally richer (uses "yards", "ounces", rather than "meters"), but the metric system is more widely used. Your choice. We can do either one. My wife will join the translation fun too.

If I can't play together with my wife, I'm probably gonna give XCom a miss until Oct 2013 (after a long trip to Europe). Yes, I'm the only (rare) one who has perfect USA English and China Chinese mastery. Long story how I got there. Let's talk about XCom. :-)

Please please let us do a Chinese translation?

PRC if not happy in SG please go home. We are sick of you cluttering up our varsities, transport system, job market and talking smack about us. Like roaches, I know the PRC genetic defect will survive the next ice age, global calamity, etc. However if you choose to stay in SG please be respectful of the locals.

I hope he does realise that the american english he is speaking is very different from the queen's english, which is again, different from the english used in other parts of the world. I bet he has not sat in a meeting consisiting of english speaking people from different parts of the world...

MORE importantly, I do hope that he will realise that "china chinese" is not a one size fit all simply because china is god damn bloody big. Writing may be the same, but different region speak differently. Some parts of china have really nice accent and girls from those regions sound so cute and will melt you even if it was unintended, kinda like natural aegyo which others have to fake. On the other hand, chinese from some other regions will sound like they have a di*k stuck in their mouth.

Suan siao Singaporean English? Must be joking. Other than our older folks, our English and Chinese already consider tok gong. Some more we invented singlish, a faster way to reply. Actually, don't talk so much. 2 countries leader come out meet US president, see who need a translator.

These PRC really one kind!

I hands up say my bilingualism is poor. We use English so much that our Chinese has turned pidgin. Sometimes certain forumers would post news articles from ZaoBao or WanBao and there'd be forumers whom I am sure are Chinese, ask for an English translation.

Many of us don't have a working bilingual proficiency unless you happen to have kept your knife sharp by having Hong Kong, Taiwan and China clients or business. Ask yourself if you can work a full day speaking nothing but Mandarin, writing nothing but Chinese, even for technical terms like resistors, chemical elements or scientific terms. Our formal education in that language ends at O Levels for some, and A Levels for others.

Don't get so huffy that someone who is better commented about us. Its true.

I do admit I'm one of those that ask for translation. Not because I don't understand, just that I prefer to read in English. Furthermore, we should respect other countries language. Not saying how lousy others are. If we wear the same spectacle like this guy, I could have just go to china and call all Chinese there lousy and stupid. Why can they only speak Chinese? English cannot? It is generalization or stereotype. He met one or two Singaporean Chinese not as good doesn't mean their Chinese and English is good as a whole. Time to wake up for them.

So foreigners in other countries shouldn't or couldn't comment negatively on the country at all? If I criticize SG in some respect then I must be disrespectful to its citizen? This is false logic.

If one speaks the truth, you should accept the criticism and learn to improve on it. Instead of getting defensive right away, wise people live off criticism and strive on it.

I for one will say Singaporean's bilingual ability aren't that good. I used to use many 成语 in my phrases but many Singaporeans just stared at me like I was speaking a total foreign tongue :X

Dumb people like you would use such racism terms by cursing other people genetically, in fact you have just cursed yourself along the way.

1) just because people give you blur fark look when you use 成语 does not mean they are lousy, why would some gong kia keep using 成语 if he is not a chinese teacher teaching in school

2) i disagree with the PRC that most of our people english is stunted

成语 is an important part of Chinese language, it can and should be used where context fits.

If you did not master 成语, you may consider yourself fluent and efficient in this language, but that's far from good.
