Running Injury - Plantar Fasciitis

As someone who hasn't had a bad episode for many years, i think really using a shoe with a thinner/more flexible sole really works.

That's why i don't mind plonking down $150 for my Nike Free RN.

Try to run without heel striking before you conclude u can't run for exercise. But go slowly first since u are a big sized guy. U may feel more strain around your ankles or knees at the start.

I agree about the shoes.  I used to get plantar fasciitis when I ran with NB shoes.  I think the soles were just too hard for me.  Switched to more flexible soles (Asics) and I've not had that problem since.

yeah i got bad plantar fasciitis for about 2 years whenever i walked too much on holiday. So i was limping around taipei/taiwan with my friend when in 2008. Came back, started doing stretching, bought my first pair of nike free and I've not had a major episode since. Though if u use the nike frees for too long, u can get a bit of foot ache.

Some crocs sandals also help as well. But u must get the ones with a thinner sole. I think Birkenstocks also work on the same principle. Their sole is a bit thicker but very firm type. So once u get your feet molded in, it's very comfortable.

My current running shoe is Asics. SAF e-mart.

I tried changing to front foot running, but it is really weird and makes me more shack. Thus running shorter distances. I find landing on my heel is my most comfortable position. Like brisk walking and enjoying the scenery. [laugh]

Whatever it is, I think I will stop running/jogging. Will just do long walks.................................to the coffeeshop to tabao food. :XD:

Need alot of conscious effort to run forefoot on those cushioning shoes. Look out for the low drop profile minimalist shoes, but hard to find. These low dropped profile shoes are easier for forestriker.

And yes, forestriker do make you more shack as it engage more muscles group to support your weight as oppose to heel strike, where your knees and heels take a huge portion of your weight.

I believe you are on the heavy side. Why not just do HIITs to reduce weight before doing a run. Personally I feel HIITs if done properly, gives better ROI in term of health benefits.

I do another form of HIITs regularly. Futsal. [laugh]

That futsal also going to pound your foot. I was thinking maybe you select a combo hiits that doesn't pound your feet.. Include some leg strengthening exercises, like squad, calf raise into the combo, + core training with HiiT intensity.

I recommend shockwave therapy but expensive though $300-$350 per session abt 10-15mins. Sports clinic in most hospitals hav it. Get a referral first frm poly as it will be a bit cheaper.

I waa suffering frm it for 2yrs and when i read abt dr benedict tan ( sea game gold medalist) abt the said treatment, i tried it at ktph n wif jus 1 treatment i was amazed n the pain is gone.

I have tried that. It did went away for a couple of months and then returned again. It was only a short term relief for my case.

I think it was due to me having the HLA-27 gene.

Thin sole? So Chinese Kung Fu shoes also can? [laugh]

Seriously, Chinese kung fun shoes are very good for forefoot running. If you look at those racing shoes, they are all very thin soles one. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

I felt pain in the heel. At first I didn't attach importance to this. A week later the pain intensified after the football training. I decided to go to the doctor. He said this is plantar fasciitis.

But I have an initial stage. I was looking for exercises in Internet. Found advice on page. What do you think? How useful are these tips in the book? And how long to be treated? Can I forget about the next training?

Go CGH and see the Sports Medicine Specialist.

There are some stuff (footwear, stretches and long term exercises) u can do to reduce the impact of plantar fasciitis. Some which were already mentioned in this thread.

Other than shockwave treatment which is available only at the sports medicine side.

Why bother to waste money on some book.
