I think nows a day, most of the pumps are made in China even if you buy it from the shop, you will never know where the pump is made, as it is hiden inside the base. However, for DIY fountain, you have to get a pump that with a water flow control function, so the water will not spill out. I rear fish for many many years liao, pumps from tiny to huge like 8,000L/hr ones, none has caught fire before. Most of the pumps I buy is from China. Buy, use, spoil, throw, buy new one. If u want reliable, consider getting Eheim, its german brand.
