Cannot confuse price with value in SIngapore because of badge effects, AD margin and CEVs/VES distortions.

That said, the right comp set in Singapore for a 7 seater mid-sized SUV are (all around +/-10% of price in global markets of US, Australia, Canda) :-

CX-9

Sorento

Santa Fe

In the mid-sized space, Honda rep (Pilot), Toyota's rep (Kluger/Highlander) and Nissan's rep (Pathfinder) are all not sold in Singapore.

X-Trail, CR-V, Outlander are from a class down, from the compact SUV class.

CX-9 is a beautiful car, and I would probably go for this rather than a Discovery Sport. Not sure if I would pay 30-40% more than a Sorento given the global prices, but to each his own in that regards.

How about toyota harrier, which category is that?

Harrier is harder to place affirmatively because it's a domestic model and not a global model, hence no comparison tests to reference.

By size, it's very similar to XTrail, hence it would be on the larger end of the compact SUV space.

Data below. Would reference width and wheelbase as the key determinants.

Harrier

4720 x 1835 x 1690 with wheelbase of 2660

Xtrail

4640 x 1830 x 1715 with wheelbase of 2705

Kluger / Highlander (Toyota mid-sized SUV)

4865 x 1925 x 1730 with wheelbase of 2790

Sorry for the wrong impression given, I mean at this price range, it will put the car in between the luxury and mass market segment, and gearing more towards the luxury segment. Mass market customers will likely to go for sub $150k range.

I saw the new CX-9 at the showroom last week but did not test drive due to long waiting list.

The car is huge and feels very luxurious / upmarket especially with the dark coloured lining on the pillar and ceiling.  Accessories and safety feature are also top notch.  The interior dashboard looks simplistic modern and high quality.  If I need to pick, will be lack of cooling seats (the car comes with heated seats instead), air con on the 3rd row and 360 camera for parking.  For AWD, it will be 10k more.  The soul red colour on the display on CX-5 looks super tempting.  IMHO, its feels better than the Lexus NX.

As pity my car is barely 1 year old.  Will consider this beast when I am ready for a change and budget permits.

Probably eurokars management pple.

I also triple look at it and make sure it wasn’t a CX5.

Confirm its the CX9.

yes,

Confusing too in terms of design,

but CX9 much larger...lengthwise more than 5m long.....even longer than the spacious Alphard/Vellfire.

To complicate matters -> new CX-8.

Those who have booked - congrats, perhaps more value for money than fancy lexus RX or the "small" NX.

Hope to see on the road.

see Tokyo Motor Show.

Seriously.

I have not seen any SUVs having a walk thru isle to access the third row, it’s like saying HDB no good because it is not gated.

I only know Vans (mini, luxury or otherwise) having a walk-thru isle.

Santa Fe has a 6 seater model which allows passenger to walk thru the aisle to third row.

CX-8 is probably for the China market only, just like the CX-4.

Thanks Dach and Carbon82, think both of you were right.

CX-8 not for worldwide sales!

btw: The rear 3rd row seats still not as spacious. With all seats up, rear luggage space too not so cavernous although the car is >5m long, just my humble opinion.

Yes definitely less than an Alphard.

Surprisingly less than a Sorento as well (given the length).

But it's more spacious than a Discovery Sport and a X5, if one is comparing to the Conti 7 seater SUV options as well.
