Mazda CX9

I think it will not be priced cheaply when arrived in SG.. likely above 160k

So you got me thinking.

Assuming:

1. OMV is 10% higher than Sorento SX (based on price differential in Australia) --> OMV is c. SGD37.4k

2. Adding up all the basic costs (ARF, GST, Excise duty, COE of SGD57k) --> Total basic cost is c. SGD149.4k

3. Assuming Eurokars profit margin of 25% (in line with CX-5, Mazda 6 etc) --> Estimated selling price is c. SGD186.7k

4. FWD CEVS is c. SGD5k and AWD CEVS is c. SGD10k.

Hence selling pricing for FWD is expected to be SGD192k and for AWD is c. SGD197k.

Not bad - around Fortuner pricing and considerably below Landrover Discovery Sport, Certainly deserves some consideration at these levels.

Trouble is some people will not bite a Mazda at close to $200k in brand conscious Singapore I feel.

Yes fully agreed.

But then again, this was also a big issue in Australia (see comments in Caradvice articles on CX9 - "$70k for a Mazda?!"), the US (34% pricier than the next most expensive Mazda) etc. But it's generally done well in those markets.

This was also a major issue for Kia when it launched its Sorento. Ironically, if priced at $200k, it will make the Sorento at $160k look like a steal.

I think the saving grace for the CX-9 is that, if you need a 7 seater (not a 5 seater with 2 mini seats for occasional use) and do not want a MPV, there really aren't that many mainstream choices in Singapore. Literally only Sorento, CX9 and maybe Santa Fe.

So per the overseas markets, you may see some X5, Q7 or XC90 buyers migrate into this space if Mazda brings in the high spec CX9.

Not sure if heard wrongly just now, heard over radio that CX9 would be displayed in coming Motor Show 2017. Those keen on the car can go see the car in flesh, but please confirm it is true before going down to avoid disappointment.

huh 220k? What weed are the Eurokar people smoking?  [laugh]

There's currently a HUGE gap in the mkt in the 7-seat SUV segment between the Sorento and others.

Sorento $160k.

XC90 $280k+

Q7 $300k

Nothing in between so TEK cum n save the day w a $220k CX9......

Haha yeah man. Wonder what the OMV is.

Then again, in the absence of the Sorento option, I'll frankly prefer the CX9 at $220k rather than the Discovery Sport at $220-240k, or the XC90 at $290-350k.

I love the way the Cx-9 looks. Based on all the reviews, it's definitely a better driving experience to the sorento.

But 50-60k difference ?

Lol family men need to save money for family lol.

Previous generation CX9 with 3.7L engine is about 216k, see link below:

Search pricelist in year 2014

The new CX9 is 2.5L. At 220k level, ppl will be more interested to look at Land Rover as they are specialised in SUVs. I think previous CX9 wasnt doing very well too in SG so TEK needs to price this one strategically.

For a 7 seater SUV, it is cater to the family needs more than running on rocky terrains. Reasonably should be priced around 170k for entry level? Anything higher, family men would probably consider MPV that is more comfortable. Just thinking out loud my thinking
