Cerano 1st Gear February 25, 2013 Share February 25, 2013 (edited) I think his comments cheapen the sacrifices of the men and women in Singapore especially when we have soldiers dying or even nsmen having heart attacks during ippt. Its a serious insult to our national pride especially coming from someone who has never sacrificed so much in his life in his cushy aircon office. Note his comments that protecting one's country is not a joke, but making a political issue out of NS is a joke. The point of locals serving NS and foreigners don't, and for them to talk about sacrifices without going through the 2 years of NS, up to a certain point becomes flogging a dead horse. Although NS allowances have significantly increased over the years, the way to make our army more professional is to pay the NSFs the same way as regulars, and subject them to the same performance appraisals. Good performing NSFs will get the same increments as a regular with the same performance. I doubt it will happen, but if we can pay our ministers millions for their "sacrifices", I don't see why we cannot pay our NSFs regular wages. If you look at how our soldiers train you'll see how so many of them give everything they have for less pay than even a cleaner. Granted we have to make exceptions because our time in service is limited but i think being in uniform is a proud thing and regardless, our training has allowed us to become possibly the most intimidating force in the region. Dont cheapen the sacrifices and lives that many have given up.
