Spring Moderator March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 Hi bros, Interested in any comments on the new Peugeot 208. Understand it's a diesel, first time I've heard of a 1.6litre diesel. I read somewhere the additional diesel road tax is only $640 per year for 1.6litre diesel based on min Euro IV and above standards. If that is true, then it might be worth it as it's only around $53 per mth more in tax but you save at least $100 on petrol per mth based on 60 cents price diff between RON95 and diesel and avg usage of 170 litres per mth?? I stand corrected on the above info. Thks!! ↡ Advertisement

Some diesel cars can travel from SG to TH and back on a full tank.

Kangadrool Supersonic March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 Sure or not? Renault Megane 1.5A diesel, FC @ 22.7km/l combined cycle. Full tank 60L. 60 x 22.7 = 1,362 km range OK lah, real world will be different one for sure. So, we take 30% discount off, = 950km range. This should be good enough for most people who travel to MY. I am sure most people don't cover this distance.
Spring Moderator March 18, 2013 Author Share March 18, 2013 Sure or not? Actually the quoted mileage is 3.8l/100km, much more economical than the usual petrol 6l to 7l/100km. In fact on paper its even more economical than say Civic Hybrid 4.4l/100km That's why I find it attractive although some bros here have mentioned that maintenance of diesel is more costly. Its the Contis that have pioneered diesel more and so far I've not seen any Japs 1.6l diesel engines on their production cars!!
Deckbuild 6th Gear March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 Sure or not? Don't doubt the diesel, even VW Passat full tank can go PG and back SG with fuel left.

Before you go into diesel, ask yourself where you drive mostly, and whats the mileage. By the way, whats your current car and FC like?
Nullifi3d 4th Gear March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 I'm curious, you all drive up to far flung places, just to park your cars? If you travel to Penang, you will just park your car and take public transport in Penang for the next 3 days then drive back home to SG?
Spring Moderator March 18, 2013 Author Share March 18, 2013 Before you go into diesel, ask yourself where you drive mostly, and whats the mileage. By the way, whats your current car and FC like? I drive a Civic 1.6 auto avg 10km per litre cos I'm like 80city/20highway. I'm an avg user ie around 20k per year. I was attracted to this diesel cos of the cheaper fuel costs but as not many people use diesel in S'pore on a regular basis I'm not sure of the running/ maintenance costs other than the actual diesel costs. Can't compare with commercial/taxis as those are the "old" diesel. I understand the "new" diesels are both clean n efficient.

Yup, just erring on the safe conservative side since many are so scared of pumping diesel in MY. For most road trips there should be OK unless one plan to stay long period and drive all the way to the Thai border. The Pug 208 looks more attractive than Megane. The upside for diesel is climbing Genting and Cameron Highland is a piece of cake. On the other hand, with the popularity of diesel private passenger cars, believe diesel tax may be introduced in the near future to plug the loophole. In return, reckon they will give businesses some diesel rebates for income tax return. Edited March 18, 2013 by Kangadrool
Eugn86 3rd Gear March 18, 2013 Share March 18, 2013 Peugeot France did give a statement that their Euro V diesel engines can take in Malaysia diesel, and that is for the 508GT 2.2 Turbodiesel. I wonder if the 1.6 diesel is ok too.

Kangadrool Supersonic March 20, 2013 Share March 20, 2013 (edited) Saw the price liao - SGD119,800 Fuel tank capacity is 50L, FC @ 23.3km/l, range = 1,165 km. Mileage per tank is double compared to similar car in petrol version. So, work out your own maths if this is good enough for you to cheong MY. Comes in 17" rims.
