Leaving car dvr in lighter socket drains power?

As topic. This morning found out that my car battery is totally flat. Can't even unlock door using remote. My batt is more than 2 yrs but the cranking sounded normal when i last drove it. i normally leave the car camera plugged into the lighter socket, could this be a reason why the batt is totally drained? Or could it be the alternater issue?

did you check whether your lighter socket still supplying power when you shut down your car engine? some car..the lighter socket will still supply power even with engine off.......some don't.......if it cut off after engine shut down..it shouldn't be drained by the DVR.

Normally not. The car main battery will automatically cut off supply, when you switch off the car. Unless, you wired it direct to the car battery, than it will drain off. Is advice to have a separate battery pack that wires direct to the DVR, if you need it to be recording after you have leave your car.

My car's DVR is 24/7 and the DVR got a in-built battery, think those 900mAH type and charging cable is those USB mini type, so when my engine is on, it will power and charge thru my car's USB outpput. When my car engine is off, I disconnect the charging cable and connect it to an external powerbank to continue the recording.

Think no supply. The dvr will off itself after I off the engine. My thinking is if there will be small leakages through the socket? normally I use the strength of the cranking sound to gauge the life of the battery. But this time, the batt just died overnight. Or could it be the alternator? Any signs I should look out for failing alternators?

what powerbank are you using? can last how long? do you charge the powerbank with cig socket or you have 2 powerbank to swap?

Battery more than 2 years is as good as gone....

 

Normally it will last about 18 ~24 months.

Those using cig sockets one, won't the camera be turned off already when you off the engine and from there you can pluck out your sd card? Like that there won't be any battery power charging to the cam, how come the battery will drain? At least that's for my case as i use the cig socket also instead of tapping to ignition.

Im using a popular DVR, those can record over nite & got power saver kind.

 

Used for 2 weeks, skali car cant start in morning, same like TS, remote also cannot work.

 

Called the dealer..ask me how old my batt..i say 2 years..he say muz change batt, batt more than 2 years will give problem.

 

in my mind..wah knn like dat every 2 years muz change batt if use DVR, my previous car batt last me near 4 years.

Ciggy lighter auto switch off when u switch off engine n remove key.

 

I think more likely yr battery eol n needs to b changed.
