Ooosh 1st Gear April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 A new piano for beginner if i remember correctly only cost 5-6k unless you talking about grand piano. Why not go to yamaha or robert pianos to see the range and compare? Nothing beats going down to the store and see the actual product We are not talking about buying tyres here so recommendation might not be accurate

Its like buying a car! Am leaning towards the european ones but Japanese are cheaper and good too. Idea is to get a good one so, dont have to bother about upgrades. As an instrument is personal, i was hoping that my girl can have this piano for the next 10 yrs at least.

Flying_genie 6th Gear April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 I don't recommend an electric piano. The feel and touch is different. The Yamaha U1J is a good piano without costing an arm and a leg. Price about $6k. I think the U1J is made in Japan. Never, ever get the cheaper made in China ones. The sound and tone suck!

LOL for reliablilty, go for Yamaha. won't go wrong. my in laws has one yamaha piano for 30 years, its perfect condition. looks brand new. Yeah, its like a japanese car as mentioned.... Reliable and pretty standard. But no soul leh. In terms of sound, the Petrof is more pleasing to my untrained ears. The Jap made Yammys are known to last a lifetime. The model, i am considering for Yammy is the YUS5 upright Grand. Thanks

Any recommendations? Thanks. go for yamaha wx1 if you still can find. i had one that last 15years and sold it off at a good price too. Owing an electric baby grand and felt like selling it away. maybe yamaha U1 will be good too. the above models are exam models if your daughter can continue on the way up. Sabian Turbocharged April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 10 years? Do invest in a dehumidifier for the piano so that it can age with longevity. With that budget, it's no longer about exam models. It's an outright grand piano category. When I was looking for a piano, Yamaha's upright pianos are mostly made in Indon. Just be aware. Not sure if the grand are strictly mfg in Japan. Estrangable 5th Gear April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 (edited) get a kawai K5 .. it shd be within your budget. I prefer Kawai tone over yahama which is rather too bright/sharp...kawai is more mellow and a little dark. BTW, spend a bit more and dont get a electric piano...the touch and feel is totally different. Edited April 14, 2013 by Estrangable
Ferrislong Neutral Newbie April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 get the same model as the exam pianos, safe bet. Yamaha is a good one, with a nice touch and mellow sound...it was used as an exam piano when it was still held in Victoria Theatre. Steinway is over at palais renaissance if you are looking at something else... ↡ Advertisement
