Anyone driving the latest Ford Focus

I'm currently looking for a replacement for our family car. Considering the Ford Focus, which seems quite well equipped and reasonably priced but don't see many on the roads. Wondering if anyone on MCF is driving one and what it's like to drive on a long term basis (I intend to keep the next car for at least 5-7 years)?

Thanks.

Yes! I just got my new Ford Focus Titanium on 7 May 2013 and the car is definitely good. The handling and performance are as what most reviews are saying. I have no regrets.

Just $30K more will add a lot more to the monthly installment, the additional road tax and fuel too.

Focus is a good car, nice handling and ride. Driven it before but don't like the lack of power compared to other turbocharged units in its class.

if concern about fuel consumption, can forget about Focus :D

Agree. 30k is not a small amount and I think the Mondeo, while poweful is too big especially in HDB carparks.

Focus doesn't have turbocharger, but it also doesn't have that notorious DSG gearbox that one of its rivals have. Can't have it all I guess. ^_^

Did you guys look at the OMV of the Focus? I hope sgcarmart is accurate. What I saw was $13k+. Total basic cost vs price tag, they are making 39% premium. For bigger cars of their range they are making 40 over % premium. I dunno how "premium" this Ford is in sgp but the way the cars are priced, it's ludicrous. Maybe that's why you do not see a lot on the roads. IMO go for BMW & Mercs instead.

Paying that extra nearly 40% premium for a luxury car, I have no comments but for a b&b car? The first owner losses is no doubt very high.

Seemed like this is the norm nowadays.

I always check OMV from LTA website. The latest for Ford Focus Trend/Titanium are 13555/16665 in Feb 2013. SGcarmart states that they are made in Germany. Is this correct? The OMVs are really low if you take into account the country of make and car specs versus other similar German cars. Hence their profits margins seem bigger comparatively.

Even Mondeo 2.0 OMV also quite low at 21133.

Ok, my comments on the car. It didn't remain on my shortlist due to the interior design. It feels too plasticky and non-modern, especially the centre console and dashboard and driver panel. Another design flaw is the position of the aircon vents. They are blowing direct onto the drivers hands on the steering wheel. But car performance and comfort are quite good. Another problem is the small boot opening.

Turbocharged

Could be - Ford shifting from Germany to Eastern Europe to cut production cost.

I did have an interest in Ford Focus bec it is Euro made. But after some discussion at Fordsgclub, I think this car tends to need more tender loving care compared to a Jap auntie.

Neutral Newbie

The FCC is about 8.4/100km for me.. I have drive the car for about 6 months plus. The omv is about 15k. As for the handling, I prefer it more than the civic I had drove a few years back. So far, I am happy with this car..

Thanks. How is the servicing? Any issues with their workshop?

I just recently took delivery of a Ford Focus Titanium 2 weeks ago. And I must say that for the money, this car is complete and met all my expectations. It is as most of the reviews you read around the world. I have owned and driven an Alfa 33, BMWs 730 and 728, Mercedes E200, Lexus GS300, Saab 9-3 Aero, Opel Vectra and now the Ford Focus because I don't need a big car and the COE and taxes are not worth it for Cat B cars. The Focus has met all my expectations of the comfort of the big cars at a small price - relatively speaking of course. As for reliability, I cannot vouch for it yet as my car is new. But reading the reviews round the world, it should not be a problem. Especially when the agent here in Singapore is Regent Motors, a subsidiary of Sime Darby who also owns the BMW franchise.

Go and test drive it for yourself.

I tested almost all the 1.6 cars in the market and I feel Ford Focus offers the best driving experience over the rest (Jetta, Elantra, K3, Civic, Altis, Mazda). At the end I chose K3 because I like the size and features more. If there's no K3 or Elantra, I would definitely get a Focus. Having said that, if based on driving experience alone, Focus is my choice.
