17th murders in 10 months ..... [sweatdrop]

yahoo news: In Penang, 17 murders in 10 months with victims’ throats slit

NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 27 — A 17th case of a murder victim with his throat slit occurred over the weekend in Penang.

The decomposed remains of a man, believed to be a foreigner, was found at a nursery near a housing project in Tiga Kongsi, Simpang Ampat, on Saturday night.

He was killed in a similar manner in which 16 other Myanmar nationals were murdered in the state this year.

Police were quick to downplay it, saying the murder had nothing to do with communal clashes between Myanmar nationals, but could not provide a motive for the killings.

Like in previous cases, the victim in the latest incident was believed to have been killed elsewhere and dumped in a remote area.

State criminal investigation department chief SAC Mazlan Kesah said police received a tip-off about a foul smell in the area at about 10pm.

“We found a highly decomposed body wrapped in newspapers and covered with boxes,” Mazlan said.

“The victim, clad in T-shirt and tracksuit, is believed to be in his 30s and we suspect he was killed elsewhere 48 hours earlier.

The victim’s throat was slit and there were also four deep wounds on his head.

His nationality is not known as there were no documents on him — just as in the case of the 16 murdered Myanmar nationals who were mostly factory workers.

Penang police chief senior DCP Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the murders involving Myanmar nationals were not related to religious and ethnic strife in their country.

“There is nothing to indicate such cases were related to communal clashes in their country.

“Nevertheless, we will continue to look into these cases to establish the motive for the multiple murders,” he said.

On the status of investigation into the 16 cases, Abdul Rahim said they were awaiting feedback from Bukit Aman on request for assistance.

A source close to the investigation said the modus operandi of the latest killing had similarities to earlier murders.

Malay Mail had on September 18 front-paged a report that the victims were believed to have been killed over disputes between Muslims and Buddhists from Myanmar.

Police had said they were facing communication problems in the investigations and had requested for assistance from Bukit Aman.

No arrests have been made in connection with the murders which began in January, but several knives have been recovered.

Things turned ugly for a man at Jalan Muara Tuang in Kuching, Malaysia when he tried to negotiate with three suspected robbers on Oct 28.

According to the Malaysian Crime Awareness Campaign's Facebook page, the man in his 30s had stopped by the side of a road due to car engine problems.

Three bikers rode by and apparently saw a good opportunity to rob him. They brandished what seemed to be a knife and demanded for his wallet.

The man tried to negotiate and asked for his Identity Card back, only to be stabbed in the face by one of the bikers.

The knife was lodged in his cheek, causing him to bleed profusely.

Fortunately, a passer-by came to the man's aid and helped to stop the bleeding. He then called for help and took the victim to hospital.

KOTA KINABALU: Two gunmen, suspected to be robbers, were believed to have been killed in a shootout near Perampang, Kota Kinabalu, which was captured on social media.

According to The Star, it is believed that during the 4pm incident, the men, who were sitting at the front of a four-wheel drive, were killed while a woman in the rear seat was arrested, unhurt, by balaclava-clad policemen. .

One of the shopkeepers claimed to have seen a four-wheel drive with policemen cutting in front of the suspects vehicle before gunshots, lasting for a minute, rang out.

Some witnesses swore they saw two bodies inside the suspects vehicle and the police escorting the woman from the car. Others claimed they saw three people escaping from their vehicle while plainclothes policemen, walking down the street, diverted traffic out of the area.

Moments later, police cars and personnel from the Penampang police station arrived at the scene.

At least five to 12 gunshots were said to have been fired but this remained unverified as people were immediately ordered to leave the area while those living on the upper floors were asked to secure their homes and stay indoors. Police have so far remained tight-lipped over the case that has shocked businesses and people in the vicinity.

As at press time, the area was still being secured by the police. Both Sabah Police Com missioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman and Penam pang OCPD Deputy Supt Ratan Kumar Singh promised to release details of the incident today.

Asked if it was true that the incident had been an emergency drill as alleged by some, Jalaluddin said: It was an exercise as well as an operation to hunt down criminals.
