Private car owners, share how u monetise your drive. Be it saloon, MPV, van(pte), etc.

1. Rent it on weekends;

2. Car pool to office;

3. Deliveries;

Any other ways and what to take note eg insurance, legalities, etc.

I wonder if insurance got any clause that state that if we can make use of private car as a source of income.

Secali they find out and terminate your insurance saying that their policy not for commercial use..

1. Insurance

2. Insurance and have contract anot? (double-edged sword).

3. make sure it's not drugs and prohibited items. Insurance also.

Usual insurance only cover carriage of goods/samples based on your trade only. That is, if you declared you as accountant, make sure you carry laptop, files home only and not machineries, chemicals, ducks and chickens, etc.

I monetise my car by driving it everyday. And the other factors substantiate the cost

1. No need walk to mrt station 2 pax me n wife

2. No need wait for train and squeeze in train

3. No need walk from MRT station to office.

4. No exposure to rain and sun

5. No need spend time waiting for taxi.

6. No need pay for taxi

7. No such things as where are the cabs when I need them most during stormy weather.

8. No such things as this part of SG too ulu n taxi don't come in.. example East coast park which I go every other day to walk walk.

The 8 points above are time savings.

1. Spend additional 40min everyday to n fro work with wife

2. Go anywhere for dinner, after dinner go beach walk walk at least once a week.

3. Go anywhere meet friends

The 3 points are Emotional benefits.

Only bad thing about having a car is can't close eyes and sleep like travelling in bus when there's a seat.

There are no other monetize means in car ownership. It's a cost cost cost expenditure once one have a car.

If that you can save while driving comparing with taking cab, you are already making profits.

Cost savings is profits earn!

I spend $27K per year for annual mileage of 36000km with breakdown as:-

Depreciations: $6000

Road Tax: $1200

Insurance: $1400

Fuel Cost: $8000

Parking (Home): $780

Parking (Office): $1320

Cash Card (ERP, Parking): $1800

Maintenance , Repair & Servicing: $6840.

Total: $27340.

Its also average out to be around $74.90 per day for 98.6km.

If I were to take cab and using $74 as guidelines for distance travelled, I can only travel 66kms.

Not mentioning the wait, frustration due to waiting time, speed of the driver, comfort level, etc.

Morning from Home to Office @ Changi Cargo: ±$18 / 20km

#Office to Lunch: ±$4.50 / 3km

#Lunch to Office: ±$4.50 / 3km

Evening Changi Cargo to Home: ±$23 / 20km

*Home to Dinner: $12 / 10km

*Dinner to Home: $12 / 10km

# I drive to eat everyday, sometimes travel more than 10km for lunch with friends and back office.

* Likewise, I dine out everyday.
