Kazuo Neutral Newbie November 13, 2013 Share November 13, 2013 (edited) 2 different workshops commented that my tyres are uneven. Not uneven wear, but what i believe is called the ribs (?) are uneven when I brush my hand across the tyre. Some higher some lower. What is the cause huh? And what is the effect? 1 year old tyres, probably ran 20k. I was asked if I feel the tyres are noisy, hence I assume only nosier drive and no other danger? If your tires are not perfectly round there is a lot of danger. I would change them out and get a balancing and alignment done as soon as possible. I am sure your life is worth more than a new set of tires. But i could be very wrong.

Watwheels Supersonic November 13, 2013 Share November 13, 2013 (edited) need to see how the uneven look like? what car are you driving? Skali is different thread pattern. I have seen ppl use same brand of tires but different model. Thread pattern totally different. Possibly these ppl never rotate their tires. If FWD the front tires will wear until botak but the rear tires still ok. Dan they just change the botak ones to new ones. By dan maybe the model no longer exist. So use another model of tires. Or maybe front & rear different tire size. Some ppl are really clueless. Anyway ignorance is bliss. Edited November 13, 2013 by Watwheels
Baal Supersonic November 13, 2013 Share November 13, 2013 I ever saw a Getz with multi tyre sizes. This car had 14 inch tyres throughout.....but mixture of 165/65, 175/65 & 165/70.

Kazuo Neutral Newbie November 13, 2013 Author Share November 13, 2013 Took a photograph from the web to illustrate The parts labeled A, B, C and D are uneven in the sense that, for example, A is slight higher than B and C is higher than B. Which means that if I look from the side, the shape of the tyre will look jagged, although it is probably 1mm difference in height. Need to feel than can feel the diff. TVT Supercharged November 13, 2013 Share November 13, 2013 Oh...that is strange. Never heard of such a case before.... So its like a "wave" on the surface. Could be a quality problem..... Do you find your ride bumpy at all? Are all 4 tyres the same brand? All having the same uneven wear?
Simplecar 4th Gear November 13, 2013 Share November 13, 2013 I just changed my 4 tyres to KU31. Used the KH31 for 3 years. one tyre just had a puncture with screw inside (knew it this morning as I started driving out) and the rear hard uneven wear AD workshop did not detect it and told me half a year ago that the uneven wear was due to misalignment of the car (!). The tyre ws said is due to failing suspension. Oh...that is strange. Never heard of such a case before.... So its like a "wave" on the surface. Could be a quality problem..... Do you find your ride bumpy at all? Are all 4 tyres the same brand? All having the same uneven wear? For me, its the "wor, wor, wor" sound. Not that discerning when driving at higher speed but is definitely there. When i changed to my new tyres, the sound is no longer there.

So till now also cannot identify the cause of that kind of uneven wear?
Baal Supersonic November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 Think that budget tyres really wear very unevenly when starts wearing. I have no exp with budget car tyre. But for bike tyre, it really shows.
Roberttan 5th Gear November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 assuming your car is perfectly OK , for your case (only your case) is the TYRE do not worry, if wearing is as what you described and my correct understanding.
Jamesc Hypersonic November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 I believe in saving money on not having HID lamps or fog lamps and voltage stabilizers, broquet, cyclone etc. But I never believe in saving money on tires and brakes. People are free to save money on what they want but I just hope they don't drive too close to me. If they penny pinch on brakes and tires I just hope they don't ram me up the backside.

Jamesc Hypersonic November 15, 2013 Share November 15, 2013 you are absolutely correct Sadly not everyone thinks like this. Some people spend alot on fog lamp and HID and save on brakes and tires. Maybe when they skid and crash at least they can see better what they are hitting. ↡ Advertisement
