Was watching Discovery Channel last night and was surprised that most peoples were unaware of the Comet ISON which passed by so closed to Earth and now reaching our Sun today (yesterday 28/11/13, US time).

 

Scientists are watching closely if it crash into the sun or making a roundabout the sun and coming close to Earth again in December. If offset by the Sun magnetic field, "checkmate to Earth" .... [sweatdrop]

It's larger dan Jupiter. It's a bloody planet and not a comet. LoL...

 

But it's strange for such a large object to travel so fast in space. Where did it came from? I mean most comets are from exploding stars. This must be a giant star .

Don't cause unnecessary alarm leh. If pass through we are finished.

 

Its a comet that will pass through earth closer than our orbiting satellites.

Was hunting for it 2 weeks back....very tough as it was at the low morning eastern sky.

 

Managed to finally catch it when it was near Spica in Virgo. Brighter than I expected, but need to use a telescope.

Doesn't it cause you some alarm to be more aware (not our local AWARE) that in recent years that there were more activities happening in the universe ... [sweatdrop]

 

The Earth just got one passed by back few months ago and now ... [grin], Think back 65 millions years ago where TRex extinct cause of one hitting earth.

hopefully it will disintegrate or just turn to steam as it is made up of mostly ice. If it does not the change of trajectory due to the sun gravity may make it pass our planet again in December. Hope it does not hit a homer! they say its the size of manhattan.... Edited by Eviilusion

anyway.....the comet will pass by the sun very closely.....today will be passing by only viewable in northern hemisphere....maybe lots of natural disasters coming.....

According to last night Discovery Channel, the 'white' tail carries a lot of meteors inside as it came along toward our sun. It had been raining meteors on Mar's surfaces.

 

This ISON came from the outer ring of the Milkyway and it gathers meteors along the way. So 'lightup' can be seen on earth after passing the sun. Scientists just hope that the meteors were not as big as an aircraft thats fall through our atmosphere .... [sweatdrop]

ISON failed to reappear after passing around the sun, according to the latest news reports.

 

RIP little comet.

Breaking News from ST : No sign of Comet Ison after pass around sun: Scientists

 

REUTERS - A comet's 5.5-million-year journey to the inner solar system apparently ended during a suicidal trip around the sun, leaving no trace of its once-bright tail or even remnants of rock and dust, scientists said on Thursday.

 

The comet, known as Ison, was discovered last year when it was still far beyond Jupiter, raising the prospect of a spectacular naked-eye object by the time it graced Earth's skies in December.

 

Comet Ison passed just 1.2 million km from the surface of the sun at 1837 GMT (2.37am the next day, Singapore time) on Thursday.

 

Astronomers used a fleet of solar telescopes to look for the comet after its slingshot around the sun, but to no avail.

Nope, not alarmed at all. Because I cannot control, alarm also no use. Plus on this earth there are so many people with more to lose than me, sure got early warning one.
