Darthrevan Supercharged December 23, 2013 Share December 23, 2013 Part of a road along Commonwealth Avenue towards the city collapsed on Monday morning, causing a sinkhole to appear. It happened at a site where an SP PowerGrid-appointed contractor was laying underground electricity cables for an ongoing project. Two lanes were closed and signs directing traffic were on-site. The Straits Times understands that one lane was already closed for the project, which was supposed to be completed by March next year. A second lane was closed after the sinkhole appeared, but traffic was not affected. At least 17 workers were present, and several were seen covering muddy equipment with tarpaulin sheets. Officials from the Land Transport Authority and Singapore Power were also on-site, but declined to speak to The Straits Times. However, one worker, who declined to be named, admitted that "whatever happened was unexpected". GLZT 6th Gear December 23, 2013 Share December 23, 2013 One question. If car gets swallowed, will insurance pay or who to claim from? Will get new car or not? Maybe insurance coy can hire lawyer to sue the $% out of lta, then lta will sue the $#&% out of the contractor in charge.

Atonchia Supersonic December 23, 2013 Share December 23, 2013 So they were already digging the road, thought it just appeared suddenly on the road. Soil movement because of the opening for SP works as seen by the metal cover.

Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/sinkhole-appears-along-commonwealth-avenue-20131223 Could be due to the garment procurement procedure. Get 3 quote or more then award to the contractors with lowest quote. Don't expect good quality job. Same things happened to MRT trains, HDB lift and other things. Always breakdown and emergency maintenance. Even Singtel Exchange can caught fire without proper fire alarm system. The roads after repair and repair, still very bumpy compared to last time. Can see that nowadays project quality and QC is going down compared to 10 to 20 yrs ago. Edited December 23, 2013 by Mahjong74
