Hondasteam 1st Gear December 31, 2013 Share December 31, 2013 Anyone uses direct fit replacement slotted disc rotors? What is the improvement gain like? I only come across Brembo & TRW slotted for Honda Stream RN6. Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
Vega Turbocharged December 31, 2013 Share December 31, 2013 For day to day driving, you wont feel any different.
Throttle2 Supersonic December 31, 2013 Share December 31, 2013 Even hard driving on the track, slotted disc wont make too much difference. Definitely cannot feel difference Want to feel the difference withoutpaying much, replace hoses to steel braided ones. It can improve braking significantly.
Hamburger Hypersonic December 31, 2013 Share December 31, 2013 I m on slotted + dimple its rather noisy like a big fan howling sound when brake is applied. Even hard driving on the track, slotted disc wont make too much difference. Definitely cannot feel difference Want to feel the difference withoutpaying much, replace hoses to steel braided ones. It can improve braking significantly. it only improve the feel factor. Still a good investment over a rubber hose.
Porker Turbocharged December 31, 2013 Share December 31, 2013 Why do you need a brake upgrade if the engine power output remains the same?
Ivanpaseo 2nd Gear December 31, 2013 Share December 31, 2013 want better brake on stock setup use ceramic compound brake pad.
Ichibawa 5th Gear January 1, 2014 Share January 1, 2014 Improvement is not that significant if you want noticeable stopping power but it does increases brake pad wear rate.
Unfair 3rd Gear January 1, 2014 Share January 1, 2014 Same size slotted no difference in stopping power. Brake pads will wear faster. Useful only when tracking. Upsize the rotors instead. That will improve stopping power.
Hondasteam 1st Gear January 2, 2014 Author Share January 2, 2014 Rather impressed with some of the gurus' feedback (but still cannot praise below 25 points) such as up-size rotor, change to stainless steel brake hose (but didn't know it wud cause loud howling sound), using ceramic brake pad etc. Stock braking power is kind of lacking, especially during emergency & fully-loaded. I'm looking @ anything around 20% improvement gain is considered substantial without burning a hole in my pocket.

I only come across Brembo & TRW slotted for Honda Stream RN6. Thanks. Better bite from the pads cos the slotted groves will shave off the surface of the pads....good especially when you do hard braking and brake glaze set in. Bad thing is get ready to wash your rims regularly cos brake dust builds on your rims very quickly. Off course having bigger brake kits is nice...but do what out cos your current rims may not fit and there is the issue of your spare tyre cannot be used. EG...my Rex if I get a front puncture...I have to swap the rear with the front and use the spare on the back...cos the spare tyre cannot clear the 4pot brakes up front.

I'm looking @ anything around 20% improvement gain is considered substantial without burning a hole in my pocket. if want shorter braking distance then use better tyres and brake pads. doubt you can get 20% improvement through playing with brakes alone.
AlanZ Neutral Newbie January 9, 2014 Share January 9, 2014 The slotted rotor helps air ventilation and expel heat. Meaning the rotors should run cooler faster. Useful if you always do a lot of hard braking like track.

Changing to better tires will probably be the easiest and cheapest way to improve braking performance.

Better brakes would be appreciated until you managed to stop mm from a potential accident. Its like insurance...buy medical insurance is like throwing good money into the drain if you are healthy...only when one falls ill...then one would appreciate having adequate insurance coverage. LoverofCar 6th Gear January 9, 2014 Share January 9, 2014 If the car travel such great speed..the slot and holes will help to reduce heat and glow...daily driving...don't think much diff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2Q4OpGCfME
Holdenutessv Turbocharged January 9, 2014 Share January 9, 2014 Slotted/ cross-drilled whatever stuff is mostly cosmetic. They do dissipate heat much faster than conventional rotors. However, you won't be going fast enough to utilize that advantage. Change brake pads, larger rotors/calipers .etc
