IDA: Self-proclaimed Anonymous member targets govt's Twitter accounts

The InfoComm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has informed the public not to be alarmed about unusual activity on government social media channels following publication of a press release by alleged member of hacktivist group Anonymous.
IDA said a member of the public claiming to be from Anonymous had published a "press release" on Pastebin on January 16, demanding the release of five men who were arrested for vandalising a wall in Singapore.
IDA said the "press release" called on supporters to tweet storm on Singapore government’s Twitter accounts at @govsingapore and @MFAsg.
Supporters were also told to email Foreign Affairs Minister K Shanmugam or Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
IDA said tweet storms do not affect government network infrastructure.
IDA said the government takes cyber security and such threats very seriously at all times.
The government does not condone actions designed to disrupt public services or cause inconvenience to the public.
IDA said the government would allow the law to take its course.
It advised the public not to be alarmed should they notice any unusual activity on the government social media channels.
It also reminded the public to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves especially as Singapore gets increasingly digitally connected.

Bugger bug? BASH , SHELLSHOCK: What a weird name. anything to be worried about for layman?

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/singapore-government-on/1384584.html

SINGAPORE: The possible risk of cybercriminals exploiting the bug known as GNU Bourne Again Shell, also known as Bash or Shellshock, is being closely monitored by local IT regulator the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

Responding to a query by Channel NewsAsia, a spokesperson said on Friday (Sep 26) that IDA is “aware” of the Bash vulnerability and is “closely monitoring the situation”.

She added: “We would like to reassure the public that Government agencies are taking the necessary security measures to ensure the integrity of their websites and e-services.”

The Bash bug is a critical vulnerability found in the common command-line shell used in most Unix or Linux operating systems and Apple’s Mac OS X. The flaw could allow an attacker to remotely execute commands by attaching malicious code on computers running the at-risk Bash version (versions 4.3 and below).

The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US CERT) said in an advisory on Thursday: “The vulnerability is classified by industry standards as ‘High’ impact with CVSS Impact Subscore 10 and ‘Low’ on complexity, which means it takes little skill to perform an exploit.”

The IDA spokesperson called on IT system administrators to focus on systems with Bash shells that can be accessed remotely and apply the necessary patches immediately. If patches for these systems are not yet available, administrators should consider closing off the affected services, or using alternative shells, she added.

The Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team (SingCERT) meantime, gave detailed steps for system administrators to check if their Bash shells are at risk. It added that the vulnerability can be exploited in various ways. For example, network-based attackers could exploit vulnerable Web servers that use Common Gateway Interface or through applications such as OpenSSH and DHCP.

BASH EXPLOITATION "HARD TO SPOT, DIFFICULT TO STOP"

Mr Vic Mankotia, Vice President of Solution Strategy for Asia Pacific and Japan at CA Technologies, told Channel NewsAsia his main concern is for Government bodies that use Apache servers, which includes the Bash shell, as well as those in the financial services industry, and online retailers. This is because Bash is “widely adopted” in the non-Windows camp, particularly among IT system administrators, and close to 70 per cent of websites globally use Apache servers, he added. CA Technologies is an IT management software company with a significant presence in the financial sector.

That's exactly right.

Countries that have a lot of porn like Denmark and Sweden

have no terrorists. Too busy making love not war.

Countries with topless and nude sunbathing also have no terrorists.

Countries with terrorists the people all completely covered up.

To win the fight against terrorist we should all take our clothes off.

:D
