A train stalled at Redhill MRT station on Friday night, forcing hundreds of passengers to disembark.

The train was travelling in the direction of Joo Koon on the East-West Line. The incident occurred at about 11.10pm, according to affected commuters.

"The train door opened and closed for like 10 times. Then there was an announcement asking passengers to leave the train," said student Sarah Au-Yong, 21, who boarded the train at Outram for Queenstown. "But many of us were still confused. It was only when they turned off the lights in the train that people realised it had broken down."

Many commuters made a beeline for taxi stands, but some chose to wait for service to resume at the station, she said. The train was still at Redhill MRT station at 11.30pm. There was no mention of the incident on SMRT's official Twitter account.

Not good. But things could be worse [laugh]

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2014/01/24/cause-of-computer-glitch-that-suspended-metro-north-lines-remains-unclear/

Three major train lines. FIFTY trains suspended for over two hours. To add insult to injury, a 5% fare increase was imposed on Jan 1 2014

And this on top of a series of goofs since 2013. But at least the MTA president resigned to take responsibility: http://www.metro.us/philadelphia/news/2014/01/07/metro-north-railroad-president-to-retire-report/

Thursday’s outage was just one of many problems that have plagued Metro-North in the past eight months.

On Wednesday, nearly 200 passengers were stranded on the New Haven line when the winter weather caused downed wires in Connecticut.

In December, a high-speed train derailed near the Spuyten-Duyvil station in the Bronx, killing four passengers.

In September, a botched power station maintenance project affected New Haven line service for 12 days, forcing the railroad to severely limit service.

In July, a freight train derailed on Metro-North tracks in the Bronx.

In May, two trains collided in Connecticut, injuring more than 70 in Bridgeport.

Also in May, a controller mistakenly gave the green light to a train that roared through a work zone and killed a track supervisor in West Haven.

“If you combine this with the recent downed power that lasted about a week’s time late last year as well as some of these other incidents that have happened, I think the Metro-North has to go a long way to recovering the faith of the people in their ability to do this job,” Malloy said.

Want to raise fares somemore right?

Like an ex-colleague of mine used to say "God got eye!"

If so, misfortune should befall the SMRT top dogs, not the common people. Bc'os it seems we are paying for their mistakes when trains break down & fines imposed

The forefathers of the MRT has slogged hard to build and maintain the MRT system

But their sweat and sacrifice were squandered away by neglect

Anyone want to come in here to say no garmen fault?

They got many more stations and systems much much older.

SMRT seems extremely poorly managed against that.

So far SMRT don't dare to show benchmark performance figures in their defence. Says something..

The trains are the arteries of SG

An engineering guy, they don't as CEO

But no, They want sexy profits high share price

Now the arteries gave up, how are people and investors gonna have any confidence?

the extra profit that come from fare increase , is more then enough to cover any fines given for the next many more years to come.

beside end of the day. all the money involve still swim in the same pool, just different department.
