G1234 3rd Gear April 5, 2016 Share April 5, 2016 If u want to lower your risk of colorectal cancer. Don't eat processed meat (ham, sausage, luncheon meat, meatballs, bacon). I suspect Chinese ba chor also falls in the same category. I try to consume less of the above nowadays. Noodle, fish balls, most of the stuffs from Yong Tau Fu stall etc are some of them. All noodle and balls (fish ball, sotong, meat etc chinese style) must have borax to have the chewy rubbery texture. Else cant hold the shape. Food additive[edit]Borax, given the E number E285, is used as a food additive in some countries, but is banned in some countries, like the U.S., and Thailand. As a consequence, certain foods, such as caviar, produced for sale in the US contain higher levels of salt to assist preservation.[23] Its use as a cooking ingredient is to add a firm rubbery texture to the food, or as a preservative. In oriental cooking it is mostly used for its texturing properties. In Asia, borax (Chinese: 硼砂; pinyin: péng shā orChinese: 月石; pinyin: yuè shí) was found to have been added to some Chinese foods like hand-pulled noodles lamian and some rice noodles like shahe fen, kway teow, and chee cheong fun recipes.[24] In Indonesia it is a common, but forbidden, additive to such foods as noodles, bakso (meatballs), and steamed rice. The country's Directorate of Consumer Protection warns of the risk of liver cancer with high consumption over a period of 5–10 years.[25] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borax

Take good care! Seems like is a rare cancer with no risk factor identified.

Another top floor neighbour also pass away due to liver cancer and now another neighbour same floor diagnosis with lymph node cancer. These people are not really old and around 40-50+ It is really scary as nobody know for sure how to prevent it. Is it the food we eat, water we drank, air we breath or is just by luck due to mutation.

Donut Supercharged April 5, 2016 Share April 5, 2016 Hi Yuan, Thanks for the suggestion. For now I guess we will stick with TTSH and I think NCC only offers outpatient clinic only. Not an easy task to transport my mum to NCC for every visit from TTSH. Stay strong bro. Make your mom feel as comfortable as possible.

Tomasky 2nd Gear April 5, 2016 Share April 5, 2016 (edited) compared to our forefathers who braved through hardships and wars in the yesteryears, modern younger generations today are too fortunate and have too few setbacks. look at their wealth and lavished lifestyle, modern technological gadgets, cars, holidays, modern houses... do you really think you deserve to lead such a lifestyle 100 times better than your ancestors you really think it's a result of your own hardwork...don't be naive you need more setbacks..something has to be sacrificed as GDP increases annually, incidence of cancer will rise proportionally...there ought to be a trade-off.. this is a fair world..modern generations in singapore cannot complain..they have to be contented...even if cancer befalls..it's heaven's will that they have to surmount this hurdle..in exchange for their economic gain wealthy Singapore...this is a must-fight battle for you, cannot escape do u know why a society can get so prosperous and wealthy...it's due to human greed, by doing harm to others and the environment...sacrificing the natural landscape, chopping down trees to build houses..polluting the air, exhuming graves for economic pursuit Edited April 5, 2016 by Tomasky

Now, doctor has many tools to fix this type of problem : 1. Radiation, 2 Surgery, 3 Chemo, 4 personalised medicine, 5 immunotherapy. There are options to cure or control the cancer. You can discuss with the Oncologist the various options and understand how he decide which is the recommended pathway. Any CT scan done so far? I dont wish to reveal more, but the regulars(MOD) would know. Thanks. We will be meeting the doctors tomorrow to discuss the operation and treatment plan. Adrianli Hypersonic April 8, 2016 Share April 8, 2016 Yesterday, met up with the doctors. Apparently, this Orthopeadic Surgeon Dr Mattew Cheng is SIngapore's top Orthopeadic Surgeon. Very well respected and highly recommended. He gives his full attention to each case he is seeing. Therefore we had to wait for 2hrs+ to see him!!! Our appointment was at 4.30pm, only get to see him at 6.45pm. The specialist clinic was closed already but a few admin and nurses had to stay back. The nurses told me the latest they stayed back is 11pm!!! Mine is consider early to them and he only visits once a week at TTSH. My bro had to go off at 6pm to fetch his son so left me to speak with the doctors. With Dr Mattew Cheng was TTSH orthopeadic surgeon and I think a houseman(he was wearing a NUS gown and the one writing the notes in the case folder while the two doctors talk). Dr Mattew was very frank and straight forward. He asked me how long has my mum in vegetation state, I replied three years. Then he said he recommends that we amputate the whole arm where the tumour was. That shocked me, I cannot imagine my mum w/o her arm. He followed by giving his reasons, the arm is useless, will not improve my mum's quality of life if we just remove the tumour. If remove tumour, got to do reconstructive surgery which has nothing much to reconstruct. He showed me the MRI scan. The tumour has begin to spread to her bone structure and there was no muscles left. He then begin to question the doctors in private practise who attended to my mum. He commented that they did not give sound advise. If it was a normal person like you and me, sure, must do very detailed biopsy and investigation. But for my mum's condition, straightaway amputation is clean and solve a lot of problems that will arise in future. He also find fault with the Histopathology report, saying that the pathologist who did the report should not recommend excise as he is not a doctor. The pathology should just recommend re-biopsy for re-confirmation of cancer. Also the biopsy sample taken earlier was of non-significant size, that orthopeadic surgeon should have removed more. He was not impressed with all three, the oncology doctor, the orthopeadic surgeon and pathologist. He also said it is no wrong to remain status quo and let my mum die naturally. It may be a good way to let her go and not intervene in the natural process. The cancer will spread to her arms, fingers and then to her vital organs and thats it. Lastly, we gave me three options : 1) Remain status quo 2) Amputation 3) Re-biopsy He say, we can perform the amputation now, then scan my mum further to see if the cancer has spread to other organs. Then take the amputated arm to do further biopsy to determine if it is actually cancer and type of cancer. He says, no matter we do the further scan for cancer first or later, we still have to amputate my mum's arm. So doing it now has its benefit. He told me he will not be seeing my mum again. This is his first and last consultation and he has given his frank opinion. There is nothing more he can offer, the TTSH doctors are more than capable to carry out the amputation. But he would be interested to learn if the cancer is Sarcoma type did really spread to her organs. I thanked him for his opinions. He told me the hardest part now is to convince my bro and relatives to amputate the arm. After that, I called my bro and told him what Dr Mattew Cheng has told me. He was in shock too abt the amputation. He informed all our relatives abt it. All came back to conduct further scan first before amputation. I told him, I really understand what Dr Mattew is saying. Whether you do the scan now or after, you still have to amputate the arm. Do it now and the spread will be arrested. We keep delay, go for further test, by then too late. But as with politics, Majority wins, I have to go with their decision for further test first. I had a dream last night which I never had before. It jolted me out of my sleep and I was unable to return to bed till 2hrs later at 4am. My mum woke up from her vegetation state and told me to do whatever I have to do. If have to, let her go. Then she went back to her vegetation state. No matter how I shake her, she never reply me and that woke me up. My wife say its my mum trying to communicate with me, thru my dream............... Sorry for the wordy post.
Lala81 Hypersonic April 8, 2016 Share April 8, 2016 Thanks for sharing, man. As sons, we can all imagine the pain and difficulty of the situation. Ahseng 5th Gear April 8, 2016 Share April 8, 2016 Bro @Adrianli, am sure this is a tough time for you. My own opinion is that to keep the decision making within the family core, your siblings and you. You guys are the last line in taking care of your mum... Dun mind me for saying this but sometimes relatives are just chui gong LP song... too many opinions just complicate things and majority might not choose the most appropriate option. Whatever option you choose won't be easy. Stay strong. ↡ Advertisement
