Got into a chain collision, Car from behing rammed into behind my car. My car is a sedan, now become a hatch back, no boot at all. Front grill, bonnet, all smashed & squashed. My car is left with 2.6 yrs for COE to expire. Scrap value worth of 12K. Towed the car to Kah motors, but, they said the repair cost willl be too high the insurance may not approve, so ask me to decide. Not sure, whether to go for third party claim or scrap. If i accept to scrap, what will it get (apart from the scrap value, will i get the market value?) Any idea.

If total loss, the ins. Co. Will based on market rate of your car to pay out.

Meaning u will get more then your scrap value.

TS state ...Chain collision

You ram the front car first, before getting rammed, or after getting rammed?

If can prove ramming the front car is after getting rammed, then thought can claim full from behind car?

No?

Claim 3rd party doesn't mean you can claim any amount you want. If repair cost is more than the market value, insurance may offer to settle for the market value.

Unless you claim for injury then that's a separate issue.

i was involved in a 3-car collision (i'm the middle one) before

that time my car left only 2 months, and i wasn't decided to buy a new car or renew my COE

the insurance company (of the car behind me) wanted me to scrap my car, but i refused firmly, since it's not my fault

in the end, they LL had to pay for my repair costs

All the cars in front of mine including mine stopped on time, but the car hit me with full force caused the chain collision.

So your repair cost more than scrap value?

My car scrap value is 13K, but the repair value is approximately more than 19K by Agent.

Unless ur willing & able to purchase a new car at currrent coe, the 2.5 yrs u have left could be critical to wait it out. Based on your insur terms, u must let Kah do the repairs ? Because if u do outside, should be less than 19k. Agent is almost always x 2.

Repairs at workshop outside is also more flexible in terms of how repairs are carried out.

Just scrap it. Accident cars even after repair may not be road-worthy. That's what happen to my wife 3yrs old sedan in 2005. Agent quoted $30k to repair and advised to scrap it. But I managed get it repair much cheaper at outside workshop, they have to cut body chassis from other vehicle half cut cars and weld them together. Car having a lot of creak and does not feel same again. Ended up drive for less than a year and Scrap it/export at 4th year mark and bought new car. Nowadays when shopping for used cars, if kanna accident before, I'll siam the car even if it is dirt cheap. I only buy non-accidents used car and that includes my past 15 cars.

My initial approach was to go for outside workshop, but the insurance company preferred me to approach the agent. I still wonder why my insurance company wants me to take the care there.

My concern is the same as you mentioned. My first priority is the road worthiness and don't want to compromise on the safety. I have clearly told them that touching the chasis is big NO and would prefer to scrap it. But, my concern is what will i get if i go for the scrap option? scrap value or market value? If the third party insurance pay me scrap value, i could do that on my own, then why the insurance is for?

I dont think I should comment on this part online.

However, maybe u can consider this

-if can claim full, no harm go Kah.

- If cannot, go outside. ( assumimg its possible to check with insur whats the max claim they will allow) if u can establish this, may be easier to decide. But if u choose to do outside, do u have a reg ws u an trust? Else , better to go Kah even if it means u need to fork out some.

insurance company market value mostly r low, they will auction the car out. If you can afford a new car, then scrap this. else repair it since you have 2.6 year COE left

Don't scrape, get them to pay the market value which will definitely be more than the scrape value.

Take the money and buy another car.
