Understand Direct fuel injection (DFI) engine requests higher petrol grade, can advis what grade is suitable?

Heard most Jap automakers output models w/o (DFI) due to most countries fuel grade is not suitable for DFI engine, include Singapore?

Turbocharged

unless its tuned, I think it can take 95. best is check the fuel cap for the min req rating.

is Singapore 95 equivalent Jap/Euro 95?

a lot countries labelling 95, but quality doesn't meet 95 standard, this why Japanese outout model engine is different from JDM

not sure about Japanese engines but I know conti DFI can take local 95.

Twincharged

Put 98 the best, for example Mazda latest Skyactiv engine, those cars exported to S'pore have 13:1 compression, the cars selling in Japan & Europe using 14:1 compression..maybe due to weather or petrol issue.

is engine compression rate directly proportional to petrol grade?

in term of higher compression rate needs higher petrol grade,

Yes,the higher the compression, the higher the octane will be better....Mazda latest engine can use 95 petrol, but not the full performance.

depend wat it write

98 with power loss if run 95 = use 98

min 95 = use 98

min 92 = almost impossible to see on DFI cars

so...98

From what I understand before, the direct injection engines work best on petrol with high sulphur content. S'pore petrol does not have high sulphur content so we will never be able to maximise a direct injection engine irregardless of teh octane of petrol used.

Just the Opposite, direct injection engine NEEDS low sulphur contents petrol....First time Mitisubitshi bring in the "GDI" engine, cause so much problem, mostly cause by carbon deposit near the injectors & intake system..

Does Octane level = power? I was thinking it will cause knocking in the engine only...

Dyno show Octane does not up the power in N/A cars, but on high performance Turbocharged cars,yes..power is better...anyway,i always think 98 petrol got extra additives to keep engine running smoother.

Apologies on this, could have got it mixed up.

Point I was trying to make is that the sulphur content in our petrol be it low or high is not ideal for direct injection engines so we will not be able to maximise the capabilities of the engine and thus octane is quite irrelevant in this aspect.

I know this at first hand cos I owned a Lancer GDI before and I never got the

best out of it and worse still my petrol consumption was worse than the Lancer MPI version!!
