Renault Twizy - S$25,000 for an electric "car"?

Twizy_2305212c.jpg

Renault Twizy is an electric quadricycle that seats two but handles like a buggy. It is currently under debate whether it should come under Cat A or Cat D for COE.

If LTA places it under Cat D, we are looking at $25,000 a piece, which is a quarter of a new Japanese made car for a four wheeled all weather personal transportation vehicle.

The vehicle is capable of 80kmh, does a full charge in 3 hours and comes with a range of 100km, which is more than adequate for urban usage.

The design looks cool. Too bad it can only take 1 person, and I don't think it can fit a motorbike lot, so still have to take up 1 car park lot.

Seriously doubt it will be in cat d, it takes a much bigger footprint than a bike and would clog up spaces on roads just like cars. Plus imagine the double whammy loss to govt due to lower tax earned, coe and petrol tax as it's electric.

If govt put this into CAT A, it is as good as killing this project. So whether green car will ever take off here really depend on govt policy.

This Twizy footprint looks about the same as one of those horrible Can-Am Spyder things, so why not Cat D eh?

Actually it looks even narrower.

I say keep it Cat D and because it's all electric, exempt it from ERP as well. Encourage it's use around "the city".

This sounds like a good idea! [thumbsup]

But of course, what's good for the people isn't always good for the people who rule those people. [sly]

Maybe can make it driverless type, for city usage only, so people (sales etc) can travel around city quickly and cheaply.

Supercharged

I see a market for such cars.

it is the damn COEs that makes it so bloody expensive to own one.

when are they releasing it?

I remember quads come under the car category. At least when I was talking to a bike shop owner years ago on y ppl don't buy quads in Sg. So this may still be under the COE.
