Yeap, it's a stupid exam.

Based on memory, how much fine and how many demerit points for this and that offence.

Does it make you a better driver ? No way.

It just test your memory.

After you passed, you forget all the stupid fine and DP.

As usual, our wayward schooling system based on memorization of numbers and facts.

i think the fine and demerit point will keep reminding the driver to be safe in order to keep their 'job', that will indirectly make them a better driver.

No more JustGrab for Comfort cabbies
This comes after LTA says taxis can only offer flat fares if their firms had 'endorsed Grab' to do so
ZHAKI ABDULLAH & FELICIA CHOO
Mar 22, 2018 06:00 am

All ComfortDelGro cabbies will be removed from ride-hailing app Grab's JustGrab platform, only a month after being told by the ride-hailing firm that they could opt in.

Grab had entered a JustGrab partnership with five other taxi operators here a year ago, and opened the service - which lets commuters book a taxi or private-hire car for a flat fare set by the firm - to ComfortDelGro cabbies in February.

Yesterday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it had issued Grab a warning, two days after telling the media that taxis should offer only metered fares unless their companies had "endorsed Grab to offer flat fares on their behalf".

When such rides are not endorsed, these cabbies are deemed by the LTA to have "overcharged" commuters, the authority added yesterday.

An LTA spokesman reiterated: "Taxi drivers are reminded that they can accept only flat fares set by registered third-party taxi booking service providers, such as Uber and Grab, if these are endorsed by taxi companies."

ComfortDelGro, the largest taxi operator here with more than 13,000 taxis, had in January launched UberFlash in partnership with Grab's competitor, Uber. Like JustGrab, the service dispatches the nearest ComfortDelGro taxi or Uber private-hire car to riders.

GrabTaxi head Melvin Vu told The Straits Times that ComfortDelGro cabbies had been given the choice to join JustGrab as a means for them to earn additional income.

"We strongly believe that taxi drivers, as self-employed individuals, should be given the choice and flexibility to join all platforms, and not be limited by corporate arrangements," he said.

"We will continue to actively engage the LTA to encourage innovative thinking, and taxi companies to work with us on improving driver livelihoods and passenger experience."

National Taxi Association executive adviser Ang Hin Kee agreed that cabbies should be allowed to take bookings from any booking service to allow for a more open and competitive market.

He said since cabbies are not employed by the taxi operators, and only rent their vehicles from the companies, placing too many restrictions on them would make it seem like an employee-employer relationship.

"If operators restrict drivers to only one booking app, it essentially limits their customer choice," said Mr Ang, who is also an MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC.

Last year, following reports of talks between ComfortDelGro and Uber, Grab had offered ComfortDelGro cabbies aggressive rental discounts to either join one of its partner taxi firms, or sign up as a driver with its private-hire car service GrabCar.

Meanwhile, a Grab spokesman confirmed that ComfortDelGro cabbies will continue to be able to take bookings through the GrabTaxi service, which dispatches metered taxis to commuters.

Only recently. Just a month only.

The so-called taxi drivers or their association in Singapore are just seeking protectionism and cannot stand up to competition. Too many taxi drivers I have met while riding taxis, are whining about income when Singaporeans already know the taxi drivers are the choosy and picky ones. If they wanna be picky, then they only have themselves to blame. We have GrabHitch, but we don't have TaxiHitch. I remotely remember there is a rule by most taxi companies - unless they log into the system indicating they are changing shift and display a destination - as long as the overhead sign is green, the driver cannot reject any destinations.

On the the hand, with the impending buyout of Uber by Grab... with all taxi companies under Grab's flag, I wonder what the Anti-Competition Commission has to say about this. It has been strangely quiet from the ACC when it's a clear-cut monopoly in the making.

In places like US, such a sale would have been blocked the very next day the news is announced.

Uber Agrees on Southeast Asian Sale to Grab

Uber Technologies Inc. has reached an agreement to sell its Southeast Asian ride-hailing business to rival Grab and could announce the deal as early as Monday morning in Singapore, people familiar with the matter said.

The agreement -- - which includes all of Uber’s operations in Southeast Asia as well as Uber Eats in the region -- gives Uber a stake of between 25 percent and 30 percent in the new combined business, the people said, asking not to be identified ahead of an official announcement. The deal, which Bloomberg outlined earlier this month, marks Uber’s operational exit from yet another major market and hands a victory to Grab as it battles local competitor Go-Jek.

SoftBank Group Corp., a major backer of Grab’s and Uber’s as well as China’s Didi Chuxing, has pushed consolidation to improve the profitability of a global ride-hailing business that bleeds billions of dollars a year. New entrants and the strength of second-place regional players such as Lyft Inc. in the U.S. has complicated those efforts.

The deal represents another major retreat from international markets for Uber. Travis Kalanick, Uber’s former chief executive officer, sold Uber’s business in China in 2016 in return for a 17.5 percent stake in Chinese ride-hailing leader Didi Chuxing. Then Uber agreed to sell its Russian business to Yandex -- just before after Dara Khosrowshahi took over as chief executive.

Khosrowshahi has been pushing to clean up the company’s financials in preparations for an initial public offering next year. Pulling out of markets like Southeast Asia would boost profits at a company that has burned through $10.7 billion since its founding nine years ago. Khosrowshahi signaled during a trip through Asia last month that he is committed to key markets such as Japan and India.

Few things to consider before call it a monopoly.

First did uber reach out to other investors to take over their asia business? If no buyer then they close down and grab will still become a only operator here.

One of the shareholders own both company, decision to consolidate the business.

It wasn't a hostile takeover like big fish makan small fish.
