Jap Mid Size Sedan vs MPV

Hi all,

For a family with husband/wife both working (drive only to & from work) & a maid taking care of 2 young children. During weekend, parents in law usually will get a ride from our car.

A new mid size Sedan such as Camry or a full size MPV such as Odyssey will be a better option in terms of practicality, comfort, fuel consumption, costs such as depreciation, resale value, etc?

Thank you.

Of cos MPV.

After u put in two child seats n your maid, where your parents want to sit?

Unless weekend shopping u don't intend to bring your maid out, then maybe two child seats n your parents still able to squeeze in the back row of Camry but it won't be comfortable.

Wish n steam should be OK if u don't intend to spend much.

Definitely a 7-seater. Kids will grow bigger in size but the camry won't.

how old are your kids? do they need child seat?

does your maid goes out with your on weekend when your parent/parent-in-law goes along?

what kind of car are you driving now and how do you settle the seating arrangement?

i presume you are currently driving a sedan now. if budget is a constraint, you can consider upgrading to a mid-size mpv as compared to a full size mpv as the savings is quite substantial. a bigger sedan like camry doesn't solve your problem.

I believe the cost of driving odyssey is just slightly more than camry. Hence, priority should accord to TS needs and preferences. Camry can seat 6 pax at best. Or TS doesn't mind driving a full size mpv to work? A full size mpv is definitely good to have for family outings and odyssey is a good choice. Alternatively, do consider wish or stream for best of both world ie more car like driving experience, able to seat 5+2 kids, and lower cost than camry/odyssey. Should not be a tough decision.

Also take note that Camry takes 5 pax LEGALLY.

You can refer to the online log card that indicates amount of passengers that the vehicle can carry 'officially'.

If the insurance i.o is smart and cunning enough to lower payouts and increase plus load future premiums... This is the spot they can raise.

So far all suggested MPV, and i'm no exception.

I swapped a G9 for Wish 8 yr ago for this same reason too, even though my maid did not last long (my mother can't get along with maid).

Camry can at least allow 2 child seats in back (if your kids need them), but the G9 after 2 child seats, my wife had to sit with body tilted to one side when squeezing in on back row...

If really need 2 car seats, even Camry is out… since TS has parents to accommodate too.

Only MPV with 3 rows then got chance...

Just curious, can such vehicles be registered under commercial 'G' plate? Or need to be 'P' or 'C' plate huh?

G plate = commerical

P / CB = bus

can even register as S plate

* CB quite hard to register IIRC coz lower road tax and need seat belts

The height could be a problem for MSCP. You can only park at open car park...
