Bluecollar 1st Gear April 20, 2014 Share April 20, 2014 Hi All, Just like to have an update from current and would be hybrid owners on how economical and reliable of hybrid cars these days. Seen many improvements from different makes, and would like feedback from those whom are driving or would be owner why consider a hybrid. Please I am not a tree hugger and appreciate posts that can provide cost of usage and fuel saving over time. CEV rebate is also not a consideration because as understand, OMV or parf gets affected by the end of 10 years, thus that segment is a no win to owners. (at least that's how I feel). Thanks ↡ Advertisement

Thanks If you are into smooth driving then it's right choice but prepare for replacement of the hybrid battery as it will deteriorate similar like hand phone or laptop battery. For a typical hybrid vehicle to function normally, the battery at least need to be 50%-70% in its optimal condition. As for FC saving not much even in long term or high mileage driving, ultimately those saving will be used to replace a new battery. Bluecollar 1st Gear May 2, 2014 Author Share May 2, 2014 (edited) Hi Guys, Sorry tot there was no answers and not many ppl here owns a hybrid, so was ignoring it for awhile. 1. My monthly mileage is 2000km + 2. Understand that the fuel savings in hybrid compared to the car price even with CEV rebates cannot equate to any savings at all. Am sure the reliability of the car and batteries have improved after so many years, thus with only fuel saving as a goal in mind hybrid car is still not an option in Singapore. Not sure if I am right, please feel free to comment. 3. My car is almost due for scrap and my options are either camry hybrid or camry 2.5 normal while the next option is IS250 or IS300h. Quite sure that these are good reliable cars and let's not compare comfort, drive or any other thing. Am just keen to know for the price paid for hybrid will there be cost savings enough to drive a hybrid. 4. Not sure if my calculations is correct, appreciate help: - Current 2.5 mark x - 10km/ltr Total travel on ODO is 210000km If convert to fuel consume is 21000ltrs over the last 8 years. Assume according to some actual fuel consumption from hybrid owners that clock about 15km/ltr Again based on assumed 210000km Consumption for hybrid will be 14000ltrs over 8 years. Based on savings is 7000 ltrs and current fuel price assume $2.00; thus savings of $14000 for 8 years. On this amount savings, my calculations is that to buy a hybrid actually costs more than a normal car. Please advise. Thanks. I also drive around 2000km+ per monthly. did you factor in the cost of changing the battery ? when your battery is total flat. sometime u can't even drive up a steep up MCSP. im jumping ship to get a diesel car. Torque higher and lesser maintenance

[bigcry] Yes, have considered diesel cars but the road tax is a turn off for private usage. Also I am not sure if can pump diesel in JB because I have to travel there quite frequently for work, sometimes to KL and Port Klang so you can imagine if diesel is OB for SG diesel cars. Next I've heard is maintenance is not exactly lower for diesel cars but parts are cheaper or something along that line. Let me know what are your thoughts and we can exchange notes. Thanks. Kangadrool Supersonic May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 (edited) for long distance drive, diesel is the way to go. If need to pump MY diesel, mix half tank local to half tank MY diesel. Since you drive long distance frequently, you get the chance to work out the engine when the diesel is mixed with MY diesel. Perfect match! MTL. BTW, one full tank of diesel can easily do SIN-KL-SIN. Since the start of 2013, the road tax for diesel is much lower compare to previously 2.2L diesel engine can be ard 4k. since 2013 it is lower to 2k. due to the Euro V fuel and lower of sulfur content. Malaysia is currently on Euro 2 which the sulfur content is higher so u can only pump half the tank n mix with our local fuel Next year 2015 they are going for euro4 which is good for our engine . i drove my friend jaguar xf 2.2 . we can go up to KL and come back to tuas without refueling. alphard96 6th Gear June 15, 2014 Share June 15, 2014 suggest Lexus hybrid. 10 yrs battery warranty very quiet drive (esp when idling - engine off) also performance wise (eg acceleration) is usually more than the petrol sibling. and generally better/higher specs too. -> Win Win situation. Pls note that parallel import hybrid cars - speedometer cluster/info some are in Japanese, confusing for most people.
