Pocus Turbocharged May 14, 2014 Share May 14, 2014 (edited) Anyone catching this Kaiju movie on Friday? I got hyped up by my friends on this. The new Godzilla is by far the largest compared to it's Japanese and 1998 US counterparts, towering over 120 meters. This round we get hints that it's battling a second "cloverfield-like" monster. The tone of this movie is also different from the light-hearted anime feel of "Pacific Rim" or it's campy 1998 incarniate and set in a darker and gritty tone. So far the previews have been pretty positive, while most reviewers commented on the good builtup, they complained that they can't get enough screentime of the King of Monsters himself! LOL! This will be the second time Hollywood is taking a shot on the iconic monster. The 1st US version in 1998 (shown in Ch5 yesterday evening) was a disaster for both the box office and for the Godzilla fans/franchise. The monster in the 1998 Godzilla resembles more like a giant T-Rex than the tail dragging walking monster that we all knew. Moreoever the monster is weak and easily killed by missiles and did not have laser breath. The campy storyline and plothole angered many fans who see it as a lame copy from "Jurrasic Park". The sh*t hits the fan when the movie reaches the scene were "baby Godzilla" overrun the threater. The suit actor of the japanese Godzilla was so angry by the movie that he walked out of the hollywood premiere half-way. "That's not Godzilla" he said. Even "Toho" the Japanese company that own the "Godzilla" rights announced that they rename the monster "Zilla" and removing the "God" from the monster. The 1998 monster was a running gag in many Japanese Godzilla movies. Not anymore! This movie set to make things Right this time. This new Godzilla will be the same tail-dragging monsters than we all know and love! Edited May 14, 2014 by Pocus ↡ Advertisement

Pocus Turbocharged May 15, 2014 Author Share May 15, 2014 (edited) Note for those interested: Godzilla was originally filmed in 2D cameras as the Director do not believe in 3D artistry for his work and do not like working with stereoscopic cameras. Hence the 3D version is most probably post-processed 3D. So while the CG renders like Godzilla himself are real 3D, the places and actors are most probably fake 3D. (kind of like "Clash of the Titans" scenaro) http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/godzilla-director-speaks-3d-go-see-godzilla-3d/ I'm catching the 2D version! Pocus Turbocharged May 16, 2014 Author Share May 16, 2014 (edited) FULL REVIEW: The movie is called "Godzilla". When you pay to watch a movie called "Godzilla", you expect 2 hours of monster-sized smackdown from the king of monsters himself. But after watching the 2 hour movie, I walked out of the threater feeling short changed. Every movie deserves an initial built up leading to the climax, that's how some movies became blockbusters. But if you had the movie spending almost 50% building up to the climax, then instead of letting it go into an orgasmic fury, you stop short to tease the moviegoers again. The moviegoers, already impatiently waited for the highest point of the movie, now have to wait another 25% of the movie before finally seeing the King of Monsters going right into action. This shows how much faith the director have for this iconic creature and how much emphasis he placed in the actors as a "contingency" should the star fail to shine. Don't get me wrong. I have no complains on the story itself, it has a decent built-up and decent character depth, some forgivable cheese. I'm not expecting oscar winning acting or screenplay cos nobody watches "Godzilla" expecting these. But the story leading up to the climax is too much long too serious! It's not draggy or boring, there are tonnes of drama and action leading to the climax, but for someone wanting to see the big star in action, it a restless wait, there's zero humor in the story and it's a 100% gritty affair. But The "fake" climax is the real killer. It's like your lover giving you the blowjob of your life and just when you are about to cum, her phone rings and she had to pickup to reschedule that conference call before continuing the blowjob. Yes you will cum later, but it feels different. Godzilla himself hardly gets enough screentime for the movie. It feels like the director is delibrately keeping the anti-hero in suspense like what inspired him from Jaws or Aliens. But it doesn't work like that for Godzilla. He's not an illusive monster waiting to strike, he's goddamn Godzilla! Even his enemy, the MUTO, gets more screentime wrecking havoc in the citys before him appearing to save the day/city(?). The title of the movie should be called "MUTO" with a small print "Also starring Godzilla" instead. As for the fight itself, I enjoyed the frenzy as it's true to the way Godzilla handles his enemy. Kinda like watching Ultraman fights in Hollywood CG. Godzilla fans will not be disappointed with his looks and abilities in the movie as I felt it's as badass as his japanese counterparts. This 2014 Godzilla finally did justice to the king of monster, unlike the 1998 design disaster. But the story and screentime did him no justice. It's a waste. I do hope we get to see more of him(per movietime) in future sequels(if any). This movie is not another "Pacific Rim". It's emotional, destructive, intense and occasionally helpless. It's a different take from the bright, anime inspired action-packed fight in "Pacific Rim". Watch it with a different expectation. Movie Overall: 3.5/5Godzilla redesign: 5/5 Edited May 16, 2014 by Pocus

tanbk 4th Gear May 19, 2014 Share May 19, 2014 Watched this show and found it crappy. All the characters are like retarded. - Soldiers run around all the time armed with machine guns when even missiles cannot damage Godzilla - When soldiers deploy, they even position snipers on the rooftop! For f**k? - When the people run, they do so tactically. Like hide behind cars, and put their finger to their lip to remind each other to stay quiet. But its night-time and they each run with a big-ass torch-light on! - Planning of the nuclear warhead deployment is obviously done by a retard. Overall, 4.5 / 10.
